Forum: Are you self disciplined?
Good morning Teebeetoo,

I feel like I am super disciplined. I have learned to be since early on in high school. I was involved in multiple sports both inside and outside of school, plus other extra curricular activities such as Co Pres of the school's Spanish Club and VP of Finance of the Entrepreneurship class I was in. I also made time to volunteer. In doing all of these things, I had to keep my grades up. I was able to pursue my goals of playing soccer in college which took a lot of extra effort and practice on top of everything else. I learned to manage my time well and stay focused on my ultimate goals. As I am finishing my first semester of college, I feel like, so far at least, I have maintained my self discipline. I go to regular study group tables to keep my grades up while playing soccer and still am making time to volunteer in the community. I am happy with what I am doing, but I will always push myself to do better and stretch goals.

Thanks for your response to my forum this morning. I thought Queen Bae's forum was also thought provoking this week.

Have a great day!

Good morning, M2esquire,

Hey I think it is kind of cool that you have some plants that you are growing at your home. I don't have much light or room in my small dorm so I don't have any plants here to cultivate and love. ha ha. But, at my house I do have Ava the avocado plant that I left back home. Hopefully my mom is giving her some TLC until I return. I took an avocado seed and looked up on YouTube how to grow it into my own tree. It is a little over a foot tall now! I started the process in April. I live in Ohio so I honestly don't know what I am going to do with it when it grows even bigger because the climate is not conducive to the plant. But, I read it can take up to 10-15 years before they fruit anyway so I have some time to figure this out!

Thanks for the forum!

Have a great day.

Jon

P.S. I see you are looking at getting a masters in clinical psychology. My plan is to get a doctorate in physical therapy with a minor in psychology. I was thinking that there would be a link between one's mental state of mind after an injury during the rehab process. As I am in taking my psyc class, I was really liking it a lot and actually was considering pursuing a degree in clinical psychology. I am not sure what to do yet. I am just finishing my 1st semester of college.

Good morning, Ivan,

I am actually numb to all this political correctness anymore. It seems that every corner you turn, someone is offended by something. I find it utterly ridiculous. It doesn't bother me when someone says Merry Christmas. It doesn't bother me when someone says Happy Holidays. In fact, it wouldn't bother me if no one said anything of the sort at all! People are too uptight these days. I am happy to have some time off of school during the holiday season, period. For me I get to spend time with my family and friends and celebrate.

Thanks for the honest topic this morning!

Have a great day.

Good morning, Dymphie,

I no longer have a pet (my brother and I are still working on that!) but when we did have a dog, we definitely got her Christmas presents. She even opened them. We have some fun videos of that. She would get so darn excited. Her tail would wag so hard her butt would go every too! It was awesome. I sure to miss that.

For now, we buy Christmas presents for my Aunt's pets and my grandma's pets. My aunt doesn't have kids of her own, so her pets are like her children. I don't ever get to see if their pets open them like my old dog did though.

Fun topic!

Have a great day.

P.S, Thanks for your response about my bucket list. I think it would be really wonderful if you, your mom and your sister could do the medical mission in the Philippines one day.. I can only imagine what a special bonding experience that would be for your family, too! Get your bucket list ideas down in writing and I bet they are sure bound to happen!

Good morning CNetters.

Another election week has nearly come and gone. It's hard to believe how fast time is flying by!

I don't know about you, but every day I am amazed at the thoughtful forums and responses. There are so many good topics and I wish I had more than five posts so I can comment on more of them!

My question today is this:

What was your favorite forum this week?

There were a lot of really good ones! I think for me this week it has to be Wanderer. Wanderer's post about living life passionately really got me thinking even more about my life than I already do. (I am a thinker, an over thinker many times). Wanderer, your posts about your running a marathon inspired me too! Congratulations on exceeding your goal with the run of 4 hours 39 minutes, beating your initial goal of 11 minute miles. I am thoroughly impressed!

Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts on their favorite forum(s) this week!

Have a great day.

Good morning, Joey,

Ha, I was always wondering why they considered Die Hard a Christmas movie! I have never seen it, but the name never seemed to be associated with Christmas. You've now explained it so thanks!!

My favorite Christmas movies are: A Christmas Story and Home Alone. The house in Christmas Story is about about 20 minutes away from where I live. I think it's a big reason I am so drawn to it, plus I think it's funny as heck! Home Alone, again, I think is funny. The Polar Express is a book that my mom used to read to me all the time as a kid so that movie holds a special place in my heart as well.

Thanks for the forum and have a great day!

Good morning, Jess.

I would describe myself as conservative. Like you, I am also honest so telling the truth seems like an easy and logical fit for my personality!

If I was among my closest of friends, however, I might be willing to take their dare because I'd trust them enough not to ask me to do something so stupid that would harm me or jeopardize my future!

Fun forum!

Have a great day.

Forum: Can you cook?
Good morning, Grace.

I am not a super great cook, but I did take a cooking class in high school. It was so awesome to learn how to make "real" food, not just something heated up from a box in the microwave.

I learned how to make soft pretzels, I made muffins-all different flavors, my favorite being banana nut. We cooked those for the Veterans. On Veteran's Day we hosted them and had a huge assembly and fed them what we cooked. I learned to make lasagna and pizza too. The pizza was another favorite. We made the dough and everything! I can now read and follow a recipe and not be scared off from it! Living in a dorm there's no opportunity for me to cook but when I get home I will be able to prepare meals that I actually like (dorm food is terrible!).

I think everyone should consider taking a cooking class! They are a lot of fun.

Have a great day and thanks for reading!

Forum: Body image & triggers during the holidays
Good morning Bubbers,

Your post is so important! I am glad you mentioned it. I think Kat had the best response, that she would rather be happy than be thin. Kat, I am so glad you are happy! Everyone deserves that!

My mom has struggled with body image her whole life. She works super hard to eat right and stay in shape. After having children coupled with the aging process it has gotten much harder for her but she still stays aware of what she eats. Sarah Michelle Geller's comment and all the Victoria Secret adds of super skinny models makes it seems so unrealistic for the average person, especially females, to be accepting of how they look. I wish that they would stop having those tv adds and even the super skinny models in magazines. They don't look real and they surely don't exemplify the average person. Ok enough with my rant.

I personally have been fortunate to not have to worry about body image or weight. I am an 18 year old athletic male. My struggle has been to add weight to my frame not reduce it. But with that said, I know my girlfriend sometimes talks about her weight and image. She is an athlete as well. There is no way she should be worrying about it. My wish is that everyone could see their worth and beauty (internally and externally) and be accepting of it. I think it is important to be sure not to over indulge during the holidays but at the same time know that if you do, it is okay! There's always tomorrow. Everything in moderation is the key.

Love yourself!

Have a great day.

Jon

P.S, I wanted to circle back to your response to my post the other day.I haven't seen "A Girl Like Her" so thank you so much for the info and trailer! I am going to check it out once I get done with my finals! Also thanks for telling me what you love about yourself! Being extroverted is so awesome! I think it's a gift when people can just talk to anyone and feel comfortable with that. I am shy at first but come around! I am glad you love your hair too! Thanks for sharing!!

Forum: Do you have a "bucket list?"
Good morning CNetters!

I think I figured out what my New Years Resolution is going to be. Well, maybe you'll think it's not much of one but for me it is a start. I don't have a Bucket List. So, that's what my resolution will be. To create a Bucket List. I need something like this to help ensure that I am not only going through life, but growing through life with my experiences!

So my question to you today is:

Do you have a Bucket List? How long is it? How long should it be? How long have you been working on completing your Bucket List? Is a Bucket List something that should be a fluid document and continuously evolving?

As I work to create mine, I was curious how they work.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!
