I think that this is a great idea, and I need to do this more often for myself.

I love that I am patient, strong willed, and I try hard at everything I do. I always want to be the best version of myself.

Forum: Can Porn be an Addiction?
So I got a call from my best friend who lives in another state this morning, and she was pretty upset about finding porn on her husband's phone. They discussed the issue and he said that he was addicted to porn. She of course didn't enjoy hearing this and it has now become a serious problem in their marriage. They have a 9 month old son, so I think they really need to not give up on their marriage. I just don't know what advice to give her...

Do you think porn can be an addiction?

Do you think it should bother the wife if her husband looks at porn?

Do you think a marriage should be ruined over it?

I am planning a wedding, and I struggle with the whole tradition thing all of the time. There are things that I want to keep traditional, and things I want to do our own way. I think that each wedding is unique to the people getting married, and that there is no script that needs to be followed. I don't think it is misogynistic to "give the bride away," I think it is just a tradition that makes very little literal sense to our modern day society.

I very much want to be a parent some day, but I don't have a desire to have natural children, so I would like to adopt. But I am with you in that being a parent is a very exciting thing to think about. I can't wait to have that experience. As far as being married, for me that is a must. Not from a religous standpoint so much, but because I want to make sure that my kids grow up in a two parent home, so I want to make sure that I am in a solid relationship.

Maybe the anwer would be to have a waiver program available for people that require non traditional work hours. I agree that the money aspect is a serious part of this whole idea, but I feel like we have to find a way to make this available. At the title 1 school where I volunteer in a kindergarten class, there is a district run preschool on site. Most of the kindergartners came out of this program and I think it made a world of differece for most of them. I suppose each school district's situation is different, but that might be one angle that would make this whole idea a bit more feasable.

Hi DirtyDeeds,

Congratulations! That is exciting news!

I have never proposed to anyone, but I have been proposed to :) My fiance proposed in a very random way. We were sitting on the couch one night watching movies. All of a sudden he randomly turned the movie off, turned to me and asked me to marry him. It might not seem all that romantic to some, but it was for me. I do not really enjoy being the center of attention so being in the middle of a restaurant and having him get down on one knee in front of a bunch of strangers might have killed me inside. Just the two of us was just right for me.

My advice to you is, consider what type of person your girlfriend is. If she enjoys displays that bring attention to her, than I would plan something at a restaurant etc. If she is more of an introvert, pick somewhere private. Take a walk to your favorite spot, or cook a nice dinner at home.

While I think it is cliche to propose on Valentines day, it isn't necessarily a bad thing. I used to hope that he would propose when valentines came around. It is one of those days when love is in the air.

Good luck!

I am all for it. I believe that many of the children who would benefit from universal preschool are the same children that often lack foundational knowledge in things like vocabulary and speech by the time they reach kindergarten. I know there are people who will argue that such skills and knowledge are the responsibility of the parents (because such things are best developed during the critical toddler years,) and I don't disagree, but the reality is that there are many reasons why such things are not being adequately taught to children in households all over America. If you think about it, non or low educated parents may not have the knowledge or resources to pass onto their children. Kids from homes in which there is only a single parent who works full time, or from homes where two parents work full time may suffer because there is just not enough time in the day, and non English fluent parents do not have the vocabulary themselves to give their children quality exposure in vocabulary. These are just some of the reasons that universal preschool would help to give kids a better chance at success throughout their scholastic careers, and into their adult lives. I believe that literacy is the key to success, and literacy training starts well before kids reach kindergarten. I say we give every kid in America the chance to start school on par with their peers.

Great topic! Good luck with your paper!
