Age of moving out on your own

What age did you move out or age you plan to move out? Rent prices are really high near where I live and I honestly don't see how high school graduates can make it on their own. I moved out of my parents house when I was 19 but that was 20+ years ago. If I could do it over, I would have stayed at home longer.

    hey napajaja!

I actually moved out at age 18 and moved into my uncle's house for three years during college. I tried commuting but it was very hard.

I hated waking up so early to go to school and then the commute back was horrible. So then I moved into my uncle's house which was the best time of my life because I got pretty perfect grades. It is just what i be around people I love. Oh yes I paid rent my last year at my uncle's house.

Then I moved out during my Junior year to live with roomates across my university which was pretty cheap! I paid about 250$ rent haha

After I moved back to my parent's house I still paid rent ...a little less, but it thought me responsibility. Now I am back to my old complex! I am pretty happy now.

    Hello napajaja21,

I haven't moved out yet, but then again, I'm only 19. I'm commuting from home to university, because it's only around a 20 - 30 drive and it saves a ton of money, since I don't have to pay for rent, food, utilities, ect. Once I graduate in two years, I'll look into getting my own place, probably during the summer/fall of that same year. If I need to live at home any longer, I'll be paying my parents rent money.

    Hey napajaja21!

I moved out and started paying rent when I went to college. I was paying about $500 to rent a room in a house. We had a total of 7 people (two more than we were supposed to) so that our rent would me more affordable.

Luckily, for years I was able to find rent prices similar to my $500 in all the states I lived by just renting out a room. Since moving to San Diego I have had to pay so much more in rent. I live with my boyfriend and we are paying 1600 for a 1 bedroom that isn't even close to the beach. I have no idea how high school grads are able to afford living here. I love San Diego but I don't think I can afford living here much longer. I miss my $500 rent prices for sure!

Re: Age of moving out on your own

    Hello napajaja21,

I moved out when I was 23 years old and pregnant with my now 23 year old son, who still lives at home. I agree, I don't know how in the hell I'm going to ever get this 23 year old out my house. He currently doesn't make enough money to move out on his own and living with roommates is risky, so I don't know how and when he will do it.

Re: Age of moving out on your own

I moved out of my mom's house at 19 years old. I graduated high school and then went straight to college! So I moved into a dorm. During the summer I stayed there but briefly, I hated living at home because it was so far away from all my friends.

I now live by myself, which is expensive, but it's better than having a roommate!

Re: Age of moving out on your own

    Good afternoon,

I was 17 and moved in with friends. It wasn't easy for sure, but we all made it work.

    Have a great day!

I moved out on my own after my sophomore year of college.I got an apartment near school with a few roommates. I had just turned 20 years old. My parents and I decided it would be a good time for me to get a place off campus for summer soccer and summer internships. They actually moved down to Miami, FL so I have a nice summer vacation spot now!

Re: Age of moving out on your own

I think this is a very good question and it definitely depends on you, your relationship with your parents and your situation. I moved out at 19 but I was still getting help from my parents with rent because I am in college.

It is so nice of them to help me out but I do sometimes also wish I stayed home longer. However, the crappy apartment I live in now kind of sucks but it will be so much better when I can actually buy a real house.
