    Living with Parents

As rent prices all over increase, more and more people are choosing to live with their parents for longer. I moved out of my parents house at age 15 due to irreconcilable differences, but I have friends who are 25 years old and living with their parents. The upside to living with your parents is usually not paying rent, therefore giving you more time to save up and maybe repay student loans. Oftentimes your parents will still take care of your basic needs while you live with them, so you don't have to worry about cooking or laundry. The downside is that you may not have full autonomy to do as you like and you are not learning how to live on your own and take care of yourself.

Do you live with your parents? Why or why not? If not, how old were you when you moved out? If you do, when do you plan on moving out?

    Good morning!

I don’t live with my parents. I moved out at 17. I love my mom but I just can’t live with her.

    Have a great day!

    Good morning!

I do not live with my parents. I did live with my mom up until she passed however. She did need me to help her out as she had health problems. I wasn't paying rent but I was paying for all of the household bills on a regular basis. I moved out of the house when I was 25. I would have loved the opportunity to stay home and save up money, but the circumstances did not allow for that. I am trying my hardest to save money. My fiance and I want to get married in 2019 and get house by the end of this year in 2018. We are working very hard to achieve this dream!

    Thank you!

    Hi monicam,

I am 20 years old and still live with my parents. I will finish my B.A. in June 2019, so I will be 21 years old then and I plan to move out after my B.A. I will be working through my M.A. and Ph.D, so I will be making money and will be able to move out. Fortunately, I have a good relationship with them and they do not restrict me from personal freedoms. I am only asked to help around the house sometimes and clean up after myself.

Since I am the youngest of two children, after I move out I will help my parents clean up the house and that will allow them to rent the top and bottom floor out, either separately or as one unit. I love my parents and I want to help them in their retirement. It will also be great to convince them to rent out the house instead of sell it so my sister and I can be financially stable later and renting the space out would pay off the rest of their mortgage and pay for a new place.

I'm 24 and just moved back in with my mom after 6 years on my own. My father passed and it was agreed upon that I would move back in with her and help her readjust to the changes. So far it's been good! I pay her rent, I clean the house for her, help her organize and go through my dad's things. I plan to move back to California and take her with me.
