    The Nazi Salute? Really?

    Good morning Cnet,

Apparently it has come to the attention of some school administrators in a district in Wisconsin that there is a picture of some boys from the school doing the Nazi salute. It appears to be a concerted effort of all of them to post this controversial thing on social media. Why do people do this? Is it for their 15 minutes of fame? Is it to make a statement about who knows what? Is it a hate thing? All of the above?

The school district is working to investigate this. Should something be done? Is this protected by free speech? How is this different than stomping on or burning the flag because a person "hates" the US and all it stands for which is protected by free speech?

    What are your thoughts?

    Have a great day!

P.S. On a side note, my mom and I neither one had ever heard of it, and didn't know what it was. My dad had to show us. It turns out that is how we sometimes greet people. We raise our right hand in what we thought was a hello gesture or wave. I hope we haven't offended anyone just by "waving" hello. Wow.

    Hi Kasey,
I can’t explain why people do the things they do. My best guess would be lack of education. To these young boys they can’t comprehend how many people have died from the nazis. To them nazis have become more of a joke it is fun, they are trying to impress their friends doing something they know will get a reaction. It is hard to imagine the holocauste and truly comprehend it. I think I’m schools we teach the facts behind history but not the feelings.

    HI Kasey,

This just boggles the brain huh? I hope it is just attention seeking behavior at it's worst as opposed to an act of evil!

I think Daniella nailed it with her thoughts on learning the feelings behind the history in addition to the facts!

As to whether something should be done ,,, hmmm??? Was the picture taken on school grounds? I'm curious as to why the school is involved so that's my best guess!? I would assume all of the parents are involved. I'd be interested in hearing their thoughts. I would hope that the consequences might include research on the Holocaust and viewing actual pictures/clips, etc from that time!

    This makers my heart hurt!
