It's my first day of school in 10 years. Advice?

It's my first day back at school in 10 years.

    What's your best advice?

I'm already kind of freaking out with the course load, but I'm taking it one step at a time.

Stay ahead of the game! always print out notes if available and highlight and write side notes over them. School is stressful if you let it overwhelm you. If you try your hardest, go to class, and participate professors will almost always notice and treat you properly.
    Best of luck!!

    Hello,

That's great you are going back !
My advice is stay calm and don't try to do to much before the teacher assigns it to you. Try to just stay on track and don't freak put over small stuff. Just stay efficient !

Hope it was a great first day !

    Hey Laura.

First, CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement! That is so exciting and yes you should shout it from the rooftop LOL!

It sounds like you have some wonderful things going on in your life including being back in school.

I agree that staying ahead of the game can be very helpful so that you dont have the added pressure of trying to get things done at the last minute.

I find that anything I can do to organize my assignments and due dates so I see the overall list daily s helpful to me.

I guess the other thing I would say is try to enjoy learning all this new information and embrace the experience wholeheartedly.

    Good luck!

    Have a good one!

    He!

    Congrats to you!

I would have to say breath and don't forget to take care of yourself.

    Congrats!

The main piece of advise I can give you is to more stress out. I waited to go back to college after many years out of high school and though I would be behind the curve. Don't stress out! Even though I thought I wouldn't be as up to speed as other students they are learning new topics and experiences just like you.

    You got this!

    hey!

    congrats!!!!!!

I would say get ahead and don't worry about others. worry about yourself only

Re: It's my first day of school in 10 years. Advice?

First off, congratulations! You're taking a big step, and you should be proud of yourself. I would say that it's a good idea to keep yourself organized with a planner, especially with due dates and when exams/quizzes are going to take place. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for help, because that's a big way to fall behind, and don't think for one moment that you're stupid for asking or that it's a stupid question, because in order to learn, you have to have questions in order to help you understand the material better. I would also suggest knowing what resources are available to you in case you should ever have to use them. At my school, we have a TON of resources, and there is one place where you can rent out calculators and get other school supplies. There is also academic advising, tutoring, and office hours for professors, which I encourage you to look into, as you might need them someday.

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck on your journey back at school! Have a good day!

    Hey Laura,
I was in the same boat as you. I had graduated with my BA back in 2010 and in 2015 decided while I was 6 months pregnant that it would be a good time to start my MBA lol I had taken three courses before my first daughter was born and then took a break then when she was around 11 months, I started back up three courses and had gotten pregnant again. I just finished my first course back after the birth of my second daughter and have about 2 more semesters to go until I graduate. It can be overwhelming the majority of the time but I take it one step at a time and I know that this will be so beneficial for me in the future and something I really want my daughters to be proud of!

    Good luck!!

    Hey,

I've never been in school, other than lower academic stuff (high school, elementary etc..) so I can't help much but this is what I can say:

Since college/university is a whole different story in terms of social life, academics and day to day schedules - I think the main thing is to try and build yourself a proper schedule. Between courses, homework, friends and rest - there will always be something to do. I recommend not getting lost and overwhelmed from the work, but to embrace it in an organized fashion, taking each task head on, then moving to the next one.

    Hope this helps,
    Emmett

Hi, I would say take a deep breathe and get organized. Oftentimes, they say that as an adult you are able to be proactive in getting assignments completed and staying on top of things. Don't be afraid of getting a tutor if you need one, and do not forget to have fun.
