Is public speaking easy or difficult for you?

    Happy Monday, CNET!

I figured I would start off the new week with the question, is public speaking easy or difficult for you?

For me, no matter how much I practice beforehand, I still get really bad nerves and sometimes shake a little if I have to give a public speech. Usually I get more comfortable after a little time has passed in my speech/while I'm up there. However, I still dread having to give a speech. I have been a maid of honor twice and both times I feared the speech, but had to suck it up in order to be there for my sister and my friend haha. It turned out okay in the end!

    How about you guys?

    Have a great day!

    Hi Dymphie,

I was required to take speech in high school, and at first I was nervous and talked too fast and fidgeted but as the time wore on, I got better so that now I am pretty much at ease in most public speaking situations.

Good for you that you were able to overcome your nerves and give your maid of honor speeches! You can bet your sister and friend really appreciated it.

    Have a great day!

    Hi dymphie,

As a painfully shy person, public speaking has always been difficult for me ever since my primary school years. Even now in college, I try to avoid public speaking but yet we still have professors that always forces people to introduce themselves.( just need these people to leave me alone lol). Everytime I have to speak publicly, I would begin to shake, avoid eye contact, and my voice would get shaky. I try to work on that but it just doesn't work. I'll keep on trying though because I guess the main problem is lack of self confidence which I have . I guess with practice and finding the root cause, our public speaking skills would improve.

Thanks for the forum and have a great day!

    Hey Dymphie,

I'm working on this always. I am not a confident public speaker although through school we had to do public presentations and then get ripped apart a.k.a. critiqued for at least 20 minutes. This practice helped a lot, but I still get nervous. I can't shake it either.

Re: Is public speaking easy or difficult for you?

    Hello!

I consider myself a better than average public speaker, but my performance usually depends on the topic.

I get very nervous from anticipation of something like a speech, but if I will be talking about something I know I did not prepare enough for or do not know enough information, I'll usually do worse even if I do not need to know everything.

I feel like coming in if I know the material very well, even extra information or facts not required, I feel more confident coming in because if I am asked questions, need to elaborate, or make more time for myself, I can.

The nervousness always comes from my head, so I usually need to take the project a step further in preparation before a public speech.

    Thanks for the post!
