What's your favorite thing to cook?

    Hey CNET,

So it's the weekend, and hopefully some us will have a little time to relax.

I like to cook when I have extra time which is usually on the weekend, so my question is, "What is your favorite thing to cook?"

Mine is without a doubt lasagna. It's a little time consuming but oh so worth it!

    So how about you guys?

    Have a great weekend!

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

I love to cook. I cook something everyday, and in the evenings usually 4 times per week (my roommate and I share this responsibility). Coffee for breakfast (yes, I know that's not cooking, nor is it a proper meal - what can I say?), leftovers or ramen for lunch, and suppertime is when the fun begins!

I love cooking with chicken or pork mostly (that's my favorite!), usually have rice or some kind of noodles, veggies (onion and yellow, red, or orange bell peppers, broccoli, etc.), and bread. These basic staples can be mixed and matched, and sauces or spices can be added to vary the main dish itself. Prep/cook time rarely exceeds 30 minutes. The thing I like most about cooking is that I usually don't need a recipe; I just use ingredients that I know I like, toss them together in varying ratios, and VOILA!! Supper is ready! Milk, coffee, or the occasional specialty beer to wash it all down.

Hope you have a great Friday!

    Hey Kathy,

I won't say I'm amazing at it, but I love cooking. My favorite thing to cook isn't what I cook most often but it's sooooo good! My favorite meal is salmon coated with honey and pistachios. It's so easy to make and if you do it in a frying pan the skin gets so crispy, it's delicious! What I end up cooking the most is some kind of ground turkey dish. I like that you can substitute it for any other protein and it tastes good with everything. I'll usually make stir fry with various squashes, broccoli, mushrooms, and any veggies in the fridge that are on their last legs. I can spice it up a bit by varying the sauce I use, though my usual is a sesame ginger marinade.

This was a fun question! Now I'm tempted to start planning a few meals early this week.

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

It has been so long since I really cooked that I don't have any favorites anymore! One day when i am done with school maybe i will get back into the kitchen and enjoy spending time cooking!

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

I was going to say one more thing and I forgot and clicked submit! Now I remember! Chili and stews area great because they are easy, hearty, and you can throw in whatever you have in the house!

I also love to cook. I'm vegan so its easier for me to eat at home usually, so I've started cooking a lot! I think my favorite thing to cook is mashed potatoes and gravy. Its really easy to make vegan and it is SO good.

I also like making rice and beans, or dishes like curry. I guess the only thing I don't like doing in the kitchen is baking. I'll leave that to the professionals!

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

It's cool to see what everyone is saying.

I hate making rice and beans but it is probably because I was raised on them.

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

Back in the days when I had more time, I used to enjoy cooking. I love lasagna, have you ever tried the recipe where you don't boil the noodles? Really! Look it up, it works.

Anyway, these days I never cook anything that will take more than ten minutes to make. I'll grill chicken while microwaving a baked potato. Or I'll just have cereal for supper. Now that I think of it, my favorite dinner is the number 5 lunch meal at Tim H. except they always run out of pretzel bagels.

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all the great ideas! I'm definitely going to try some new things.

I love your approach to sounds so "stress free"!

I love salmon but have always been a little intimidated about cooking, I'm going to try your recipe sounds delicious!

I have never made see noodles, but love them. I will have to find a recipe to try.

Who doesn't like a good chili

I love the idea of eating vegan. I wish I was more disciplined.

I've never been good at making rice and beans but I love to eat them. I also like the idea of stews...I just got a crock pot.

I have tried the "no boil" noodles and they were actually very good. I noticed that I needed to add more sasace though otherwise the noodles are a little hard.
    Pretzel bagels are AMAZING!!

    Thanks everyone!

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

I’ve recently started making cupcakes and cakes for get together a and while the process is long, I love the finished products!

My favorites were the cupcakes I brought to a Christmas party put on by a haunted house. They were Dexter themed. The box had “Dexter the halls” on it along with his face. The cupcakes were chocolate with vanilla frosting with sugar glass shards and gel “blood” on top. They were a hit! And they tasted good too!

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

I love greens so my favorite thing to cook is kale with peppers and garlic. I've gotten pretty good at collard greens as well

Re: What's your favorite thing to cook?

hummus. vehicles of choice: on a budget: pretzels and carrots. fancy livin': pita chips (that's a given)

sunny side up eggs are easy and paired perfectly with a morning cup of joe. add some slightly sauteed tomatoes. ^toast. what if i just answered that my favorite thing to cook is toast? would you vote for me?

tacos are easy and makes everyone excited. turkey substitute makes me feel that much healthier.
