    Kitchen Clean up

Do you wash dishes by hand or use a dishwasher?

Even then do you wash your dishes before you place them into your dishwasher?

This is a constant battle with my teenagers. If you can imagine.
I like the dishwasher loaded a specific way but they just throw a few in and then leave a ton of "leftover" dishes in the sink saying, "oh well, they didn't fit."

It ends up hurting them in the long run because I make them wash the dishes by hand again.

Another quick story. My sister and her little kids visited me when I lived in an apartment. After dinner she asked her son to take care of his plate. He walked into the kitchen and looked around holding it staring at the walls. Finally coming back to his mom asking, "Where is the dishwasher?"

We all just laughed. Because he had never been in a house without a dishwasher. Wakeup call for him and really for us.

That night he learned how to wash dishes by hand with his favorite uncle.

    Happy Wednesday

    Hey jdunlap and all!

I share a house with "adults" only some of them do not act like adults. Every single day there are dishes left in the sink! Drives me nuts to have the place dirty like this. We have a dishwasher and yet they won't rinse their dishes and put them into the dishwasher. Every day they leave them in the sink.

I was the only person cleaning up the dishes, so I had enough of their mess and bought my own dishes, pans, flatware, cups and keep these in my room. I hand wash my own dishes, etc and leave the mess for the rest of them to deal with! When they run out of dishes they eventually clean them. Mary Maid is not doing this any longer! There are no teenagers here, either. This is sad that adult people are so irresponsible and nasty.

    Hey, jdunlap.

Our dishwasher is currently broken but even when it wasn't we preferred washing by hand. It was just hard to adjust and trust a machine to really get things clean. Dishwashers, I feel, need to be a little more advanced. It usually requires washing before or after anyway which kind of defeats the purpose.

    Hi,

I actually never used dishwasher in my life. I washed dishes only with hands. In my country we don’t have dishwashers at home, it’s not popular at home and probably very expensive to buy. I like washing dishes with hands and I do not consider ever using a dishwasher.

I believe that it’s unnecessary item and probably uses a lot of water. If I wash with hands, I am certain that the dishes will be clean. I am not sure how the dishwasher machine works and what kind of chemicals it used to clean the dishes. I like natural soaps and they clean as good.

I also heard that dishwashers break very easily. My friends are constantly complaining that they dishwashers doesn't work. It's not a problem if you wash it with hands, and I'm sure that it's saves money too.

    Have a great day!

    Hey, jdunlap!

I do a little bit of both. I like to wash big dishes by hand so they don't take up room in the dishwasher. Also, if there's just a few dishes in the sink then I'll wash those by hand as well. We have a small dishwasher and a lot of dishes so our dishwasher gets full really fast. It's more convenient to have them washed quickly after they're used. However, the dishwasher helps me out a lot when I'm tired at nights. Since it gets full so fast, I can run it a lot. It's a constant give and take with hand washing and using the dishwasher.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hello!
I normally don't have to do dishes, but when I do, I wash them by hand. This is because my mother thinks it is a waste of time to load all of the dishes into the washer, wait over an hour for them to wash, and then unload them again. She thinks that it is better and more water efficient to wash them by hand, and that the task can be accomplished faster as well. Even though I would prefer to use the dishwasher, I normally stick to the by hand method because that's what I'm used to in my household. I'm not really sure which way leaves the dishes cleaner, but I would guess that it varies by how good your dishwasher is or how well you hand wash the dishes.

    Hello!

I just do them by hand. Currently, I only have like one of every utensil cause I'm living in the dorms so it's not a hassle to wash them by hand. I also don't have a dishwasher in my dorm so that is out of the question. I just kind of prefer to hand wash my dishes right after I use them. It makes it efficient and that way I always have clean dishes to use.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hey Jdunlap,

I use both- dishwasher and hand washing.

However in the last few months, since I have started my studies, I have been relying heavily on the dishwasher. Our current dishwasher is pretty good (unlike a previous one )therefore I feel more comfortable in putting the dishes in it. Our previous dishwasher was crappy and old and so it wouldn't really wash all the way. we used to wash by hands after it was gone through in the dishwasher.

At the same time I like hand washing the dishes. Especially when I am angry or if I am in a not-so good mood. I find it therapeutic to wash dishes if I had a serious argument or if I am angry. Somehow it calms my brain down from that adrenaline rush. The downside of hand washing is that it takes up a lot of time and if there is not therapeutic purpose then it can be an utter boring work.

    Re: Kitchen Clean up

    I use both.
I will wash the larger dishes by hand and prerinse the rest of the dishes before loading into the dishwasher.
I try to delegate the dishes out to my children but I just end up redoing their work.
I mainly use the dishwasher as a dish sanitizer since it can get the temperature so hot.
I also place my sponges in the dishwasher. I feel this gets them sanitized for the next hand washing duty.
    Happy cleaning.

    Hello!

When I lived at home my mom was very OCD about how she wanted the dishwasher loaded. We were to put our plates in the sink and not touch them.

Now that I live in an apartment I do use a dishwasher and I rinse the dishes before I put them in. Sometimes I have to scrub some of the food off with a sponge. If I don't it won't get clean in the dishwasher!

    Re: Kitchen Clean up

I always was dishes by hand. As was taught that as a child I have never touched a dish washer.

    Re: Kitchen Clean up

It definitely depends on what I'm washing that night. Washing dishes by hand is probably more economical, but the dishwasher helps sanitize the dishes as well as clean a lot at one time.

I hand wash pots and pans, knives and wood utensils because the high heat of the dishwasher destroys their quality.

    Thanks for reading!

yes I do wash dishes by hand. I only use the dishwasher when I have alot of company. I do rinse them off before I put them in the dishwasher as well.
