What are you looking forward to this year?

Many of us are starting school soon, or already have. I am a little nervous for this school year because I have to make a lot of decisions about my future, I'm getting my self pretty far into debt, and I know I have a heavy work load in front of me. It has also been a very stressful and emotional summer for me and many people I know, so I have some anxiety and negative vibes trying to get me down.

But I want to stay positive and think about the things I love about my school and education. I'm an art student, and this year I'll have the opportunity to experiment with art forms I've never touched before, while also refining skills I've been working on. I'm excited to meet new people who are driven, and meet professors who will pass on their own knowledge. I'm going to try to limit the parties and social time more and find joy in my work.

What are you looking forward to? What is going to get you through this year?

    Good luck! -Celia

    Howdy, Celia!

I am already in my school year so I am not really looking forward to anything, because I am already in it. I am extremely happy to be taking a class called "Foundations in Sexual Behavior". Studying to become a gender / sex therapist, this is like my dream class. It is a lot of work, but all of the information I am learning is extremely fascinating. I only wish that I could only take this one class instead of taking health psychology alongside of it.

What is going to get me through this year is determination. This so far is the most difficult school year, I've been constantly working without barely any breaks. I just need to keep my eyes on the prize!

    Thanks for reading!

    Hi Celia! :-)

I hope you have a wonderful school year :) I have a heavy course load ahead of me as well, but I know we can do it! The year will fly by for sure, and when we look back at the year, we will both be amazed by how much we have achieved.

Reading your post is definitely triggering some feelings in myself! I am starting my sophomore year of college next week, and I am definitely feeling anxiety as well. I'm in a prepharmacy program where I have 2 years of undergrad, and if my grades are high enough, I get to move onto pharmacy school. So as a result the course work is quite heavy, and I am quite nervous because my grades are not high enough at the moment. But I am actually really motivated to get through this year, because of my mom! :) She's been working her butt off everyday (she gets up at 3 AM to start work), so that she can help me pay for my college education. As a result I will work extra hard this year so I can get into pharmacy school and later repay my mom and give her the retirement she deserves!

On to your other question, I am looking forward to meeting new people this year! I joined a professional pharmacy fraternity last year, and this year will be my first year as an active member. I am quite nervous though since I honestly don't know many of the members that well. Furthermore, I personally don't drink either, so I am nervous about how social events are going to go down, since I know drinking is usually involved. But I am more excited than nervous, and like Tera says, I just need to keep my eyes on the prize!

    Much love,

This summer has been very emotional for me as well but the sun does shine again. What I do is a write myself letters when anxiety starts to come to me. In my letters I tell myself how proud I am despite certain circumstance Im still pushing through. my daughter and I also made vision board and an I AM wall. The I Am wall just has positive words on them. I sleep on my right side so when I wake up its the first thing that i see. I too have also accumulated a lot of debt. I have maxed out on student loans and Pell grants.

I also have a large load. I have work, school, child, things I do in church and I volunteer for a non profit that helps women. On top of that I am trying get out of debt pay for school and I am on a self love journey getting to know myself.

I look forward to my classes they seem to be pretty interesting. I look forward to getting scholarships and making good grades.

Re: What are you looking forward to this year?

I'm looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life. This is my first semester at a four year university, I transferred in from a community college. The change has been challenging, unlike anything I have ever experienced and exciting, all jumbled into one!! I moved down to the town where my school is located in May and fell in love with the area.
I'm looking forward to the challenge of being at a bigger institution and learning more about myself not only as a student but also as a person.I know this year is going to throw many curveballs at me and as odd as this may sound, I'm excited for those instances because those are the experiences that allow us to grow.
Whats going to get me through would have to be my little brother. I am the first person in my family to go to college and I want to prove to him that it is not only possible to make it to a four year university, but to thrive while being there. I want him to know that anything is possible for him and to live by example. I know that is he watching and I don't plan inletting him down!
