Are you a Saver or a Spender?

Do you save more or do you catch yourself shopping than should be doing? As for me i am much of a saver. I think wisely before purchasing something. Some of the questions that i ask myself include, "Are you going to use it? Why do you need it? These questions are very important to me because I don't want to spend money for the sake of it. What about you? What are ways in which you can start saving if you are a spender? What some tips savers can give to those who spend a lot?

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

I'm mostly a saver. I save my money so that I don't have to take out loans for school and so that I can buy things I need. If I didn't save my money I would not have been able to buy a car this past April after i was in a car accident and totaled my old car.

I do however occasionally spend money on things for my own enjoyment for example I'm taking 2 of my sisters and 2 of my nieces to see The Beauty and the Beast musical in a couple of weeks.

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

    Hi there!

I'm a little bit of both, I gotta say. I do enjoy saving money, but I'm also not opposed to treating myself out every once in a while. I try to save more than I spend however, so that I can always say I'm not in the negatives and owing money!

Your statements made me laugh because I do that myself sometimes as well! Especially the "Why do you need it?" bit, because I really don't want to regret purchases after I bought an item because a) it makes the item not so special anymore because I always have a feeling of guilt when looking at it and b) if it's not necessary or something I really, really want, it will just be money wasted. So I guess I am more of a saver than a spender as well. Gotta think ahead, am I right? ;)

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

    Yooooo

I do both. When I think about buying something, I think how often am I going to use this and will it benefit me. If I'm thinking about getting a new shirt, I think "When will I wear this, where will I wear this, will I look good, how much does it cost, etc......

    Have a Marvelous Monday!!!

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

    Hi Imperfect_Vessel,

I think I'm not a spend or a saver.. I think I'm just good at budgeting! I put some money away every month into my savings account. BUT I also spend my money on things I think are worthy of spending money on. Personally I feel food is totally worth spending extra money on. I also feel the same about friends. I'm always willing to spend my last dollar on a friend. So in that sense I'm a spender. But I'm really bad at buying things for myself... for example I've needed a new pair of shoe for two months. So in that sense I'm a saver. I don't know...

So I am both, as odd as it sounds. I love to indulge and treat myself regularly, but I also hate to be broke. My grandmother always taught me that a way to trick yourself is to pay yourself first every paycheck. What I do is take an unreasonable amount and put it in my savings. Whatever remainder is left, I would use for bills and household items. The unreasonable amount I usually take half and splurge on what my heart desires, while leaving the other half saved; this way I feel like I saved and splurged.

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

I'm definitely a saver more than a spender when it comes to things such as clothes, utilities, recreational things, etc., but when it comes to FOOD, I splurge and go all out!

Whenever I get my paycheck, I put half of it in my checking account and the other half in my savings account. It's really hard sometimes to resist the urge to take it out of my savings, but I feel like it's going to be best for me in the long run. There's been times where I've had $20 in my bank account and sitting there in my savings is a generous amount that I could use instantly, but try so hard not to.

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

    Hi everyone,
I am guilty of spending too much money, I even spend money that I don't have most of the time. I am too much on an American, spend now for instant gratification , work super hard and pay off the credit cards bills. It sucks but I have been doing that. I probably need therapy or a happy spot. Have a good day

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

    Hello!

I am definitely a saver. I have always saved up my babysitting money and saved it in case there is something i really want. I still save my money whenever I can.

However, there are times where I need to spend some money. Like, I am about to spend money buying a tempurpedic foam mattress topper because I really want one. I consider it a pretty good investment though.

Even when I hear about another person spending their money carelessly, it stresses me out.

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

I am definitely a saver. I usually don't spend my money on a lot of things unless I absolutely need them. Doing this now will probably help me in the future so I don't splurge on something crazy haha.

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

I'm a saver myself, but I am not afraid to spend money sometimes when it's necessary. I'm not crazy enough to be on the show, but I do use coupons to help me save more money than buying things for full retail price. This way I can put a little extra money in my savings account to use at a later date for something that I really want, for school, or for an emergency.

Re: Are you a Saver or a Spender?

I am a saver because of the fact that i don't really like shopping and stuff but it's nice to treat yourself once in a blue moon.
