    December Blues- Are you feeling it?

    So I seem to be coming down with a case of December blues. Just this past week my mood has tanked and I'm finding it hard just to get out of bed and make it to work in the morning. I've gotten this before this time of year so I think it is a seasonal thing. It sure is rough. It's like it's cooler now and I just want to hibernate until spring time. I have no reason to feel down at all but I am finding myself rather depressed lately. I hope it passes quickly. Is anyone else feeling the December blues? Do you have certain times of year where you are prone to not feeling so well?

    Sorry to hear that, I always liked your upbeat forums about dating, you seem like an open person who is really in touch with her spirit. Hope the December blues pass by and you cheer up soon.

    I certainly am no stranger to December blues, feeling them right now in fact. It’s just the beginning of the cold weather hits and I start getting sick and can barely leave the bed because it’s so warm and cozy. I cheer myself up by taking care of myself, meditating and of course putting some music on and start dancing!

    Hang in there Wanderer, hopefully Christmas will lift your spirit up!

    I'm sorry you aren't feeling too great. I understand that. Getting the blues during the winter months is common for me too. I get down too. I don't want to be blue, but the sun goes down very early. I do like the dark a lot, but there are times when it makes me sad.
    It's also exam time, which doesn't make me any happier!

    Hi Wanderer,

    I have, over the past few years, suffered from Seasonal Affect Disorder and I have grown to despise and dread it! The days are very short right now in Montana. It's dark when I leave for work in the morning and dark as drive home around 5:00. There are also looooong stretches of days without sunlight. Ugh! l call it "cold, dark winter". I had never experienced it before moving here. In fact, I kind of scoffed at the idea when other people talked about having it. I now know that it is real and isn't something to be taken lightly! It doesn't really hit me hard until January though as the holiday lights and festivities help some. Although, like you and I "talked" about in a previous forum, the December/holiday blues are real too. Last year, I tried a light that is specifically made with S.A.D. sufferers in mind. I'm not sure it helped and it would have probably been easier to go to the tanning beds from time to time. I also drastically up my daily intake of vitamin D as that is suppose to help. One kind of odd/funny thing that does help is to have some fresh flowers on my desk and diffusing essential oils during the day works too. I know I should up my exercise during the next few months, but those are months when I really struggle with being active as all I want to do is cuddle up in my warm blankets and loose myself in books, movies and play on my IPad. It's a battle for sure!

    I feel for you my CNet friend! It seems we are battling the same "beast". You mentioned that you will be traveling during December, so maybe a change of scenery will be just what you need!

    Have you completed your marathon yet? I read in another post that you have started your mindfulness lessons and that they appear to be well received. Shoot, I should think of trying a few of those techniques on myself during the next few months ,,,, a small, mental escape! :)

    I wanted to start off by saying thank you to responding to a handful of my forums last week. I feel like I came up with some duds last election, so thank you for hitting me up and sharing your thoughts! I particularly enjoyed your response to my story pitch forum. Your statements on documentaries and their impact on awareness in the world are very true. Documentaries are responsible for a lot of the change that we see at grassroots levels. We need more funding for ground breaking non-fiction and less funding for... well blockbuster trash. Unfortunately blockbuster trash makes a ton of money for the studios. :/

    Also, side note from that same post, what kind of hybrid do you drive? I'm in the market for a used car and have been doing a lot of research.

    December Blues. I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling depressed. Sunshine and warmth definitely have a way of staving those feelings off. How cold/ dark does it get in Hawaii? I'm sure winter there is a totally different beast than the island summer. I live in one of the hottest places in North America, Phoenix, AZ. Winter is my favorite time of year here because I can actually walk outside pain free. I describe the heat here in the summer as "oppressive". Even if you're in A/C, its just depressing knowing that its close to 120 degrees outside. It's damn near uninhabitable at times. So needless to say, summer is my enemy right now. I get upset because every time I move around or step outside, or even get close to a window, I break a sweat. Let's just say we're moving away ASAP.

    Hi Wanderer!

    Yes! I definitely feel the December blues. It starts for me in November when it gets dark so early. I have seasonal affective disorder. Last year, someone suggested I get a lamp to make up for the lack of sunlight. It seems to help. I have it on my desk so I can turn it on when I am working! I have also increased my vitamin D just like Christi said she does. It doesn't totally solve the problem but it definitely helps! I think I feel worse this week because I have been sick since Thanksgiving. Hopefully when I feel a little better I will perk up a bit!

    I do notice that I feel better when I make myself go out and do something!

    Sometimes mine lasts through the winter months but there are things that cheer me up like Christmas lights! I hope you find something to make you feel a little better soon!

    I think is lack of exercises a good diet and motivation .So is a good excuse to go out shopping and eat out with friends and family for a therapy. Good luck to you hope you feel better soon.

    I am totally feeling the winter blues. I don't even want to go to work most days or get out of bed. There's something about the gloominess and cold that doesn't make you want to do too much at all!

    I'm actually getting more energy and a little excited because I'm like THIS close to starting my winter break from work. Over two weeks of doing whatever I want, getting into shenanigans, and not sitting around that shitty office. Also winter blues sounds like an amazing christmas soul-guitar ballad. Santa why you no love me, dahhh NAhhhh na bowwwww....crowd loses it.

    You're in a loop, you need to do the computer thing and shut yourself off and on again. Do this by like...ahhhh running a marathon, that's a painful exhausting thing that'll make you feel accomplished. Or just something out of the ordinary that breaks the lull in your tempo.

    Annnddd....go!
