Ogranic, is it worth the cost?

    Good morning CNet familiy!

Hey, I was wondering your thoughts on organic versus non organic foods. The cost of groceries has gone up so much. It's crazy really. In my family we are trying to eat healthier (for the most part) and a part of that is making better decisions when buying and preparing food. But because of the cost or organic, we haven't purchased it.

    Here's my question:

Is the extra cost of organic food worth the price? How do you really know a food is organic?

Thanks for your thoughts and have a great day!

    Hi E,
I don’t tend to buy Organic at the grocery store because in 2017 there was a report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that revealed its failure to make sure that imported organic foods actually meet USDA organic standards. Part of this was a failure to check documents and do audits, but perhaps most horrifyingly, even when imported crops do actually meet organic standards, there’s a decent chance they’ll end up being fumigated upon arrival with pesticides not allowed under USDA organic regulations.

I try to buy the majority of my fruits and vegetables from farmers markets. That way you don’t get apples covered in wax and it reduces the amount of chemicals used to make your fruit look “pretty”

    Hey E,

I think it is hard to really believe what is organic and what is not in this world. Mostly everything we eat is not normal or as good as it was before. I think I am starting to sound like my parents lol. Anyways, I try to eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables and at the right time. For example, I try not to buy strawberries in the winter because we all know that strawberries don't naturally grow in the winter. Their season is in the summer typically between June and August. That is my way of eating healthier and making better health choices. I think there are things that are better organic like eggs but it is not possible to buy everything organic as that will mean a larger budget than what I am capable of handling right now.

    Thanks for the forum E!
