How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    Good evening CNET!

How did you find out Santa Claus wasn't real? How old were you?

I was 8 and I caught my mom filling stockings when I got up Christmas morning. I was mad that they had "lied" to me about Santa. Then I was sad... My mom convinced me of the importance of helping keep the secret and making the magic for my siblings. I did enjoy that!

    Hey Becky!

I was pretty jaded from the get-go. I never really believed in Santa at all! It just never made sense to me. I still always had fun though!

    Have a good one!

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    Hello,

I am not sure when it was finalized that Santa was not real. I was never a full believer. I also was raised in a religious house so a lot of stress was on the birth of Jesus. So Santa was just a secondary thought. I also think I saw my mom putting presents u der the tree and I just started calling her Santa. I addressed my letters to my home.

    Cheeky Topic

    Hey Becky!

I was in 4th grade I think when some kids at school ruined it for me.I was devastated, and really in denial until I got home and asked my mom. As disappointed as I was, it was still fun getting to play along with my parents for my younger sisters, who still believed.
I love Christmas, and we are all old enough now that no one in our house believes in Santa, but my parents still put presents out from "Santa" to surprise us.

    19 days til Christmas!!! :D

    Aloha Becky,

I'm not sure how old I was, it was definitely early elementary school, but I was hanging with my older brother during the summer months. We rode our bikes to his friends house and started talking about Christmas somehow...long story short I told him how we saw Santa on our roof last year at Christmas. He said "that's impossible, Santa isn't real". I didn't believe him, at the time I thought he was just saying that because he was jealous we saw him and he didn't. Well, my brother was not having it! He rushed us home and called my mom into one of the bedrooms to talk with her. I continued about my day like nothing happened. She played it off like he was just being silly. The next Christmas, my mom told me and was crying as she did. She said she was sorry someone ruined the surprise so early for me. I think she was more hurt than I was!

    Thanks for the forum.

    hey becky

i was in my early teens. my parents had had a particularly bad year financially. my mom told. i told her i kinda had the idea. i was glad to KNOW the three kings were real cuz THEY were in the bible! (the funny things we believe, eh?)

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    Hi Becky!

I found out when I was maybe 10 or 11. In the morning, on Christmas Day, I was walking in the kitchen and a box in the recycling bin caught my eye and when I took it out I saw all my present's boxes. I was distraught but soon got over it.

    Have a great day!

    Thanks,
    Jean

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    Hey Becky!

It was the Christmas right after my parents got divorced. My dad thought it was a good idea to tell me since we didn't have the extra money coming in from my mom's job. I was only ten and I didn't want to know then and my siblings were older when they got told that Santa didn't exist. I wish my dad would have waited and believe it or not, I was heart broken.

    Thanks for the forum!

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

My parents are very religious so they never actively perpetuated the Santa myth. To them, Christmas is about the birth of Christ, so they would neither affirm nor deny the role of Santa when we were young.

One Christmas Eve I woke up in the middle of the night and looked out my bedroom door to see my parents quietly arguing as they put presents under the tree. And my reaction was "oh, that's how they get there!" and then I went to sleep.

I appreciate the fact that they didn't try to force the Santa thing on us. I think for some people it's really traumatizing to find out that it's not real and causes them to be distrustful.

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    What's up fam?!

I never needed to find out. I guess I always knew. I'm Africa and we weren't raised with the Santa Clause narrative.

    Cool post though!

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

I don’t remember exactly how old O was when I found out Santa wasn’t real. I think I was around 9 or 10 years old. I do remember on Christmas Eve I went down stair to get something to drink and as I walked down the stairs I felt a cool breeze. Remind you I’m half asleep as I walk towards the kitchen I peek around the corner to see where the breeze is coming from and behold it’s my mom and her boyfriend with the front door open. I can see the car is backed up to the front door and they’re bringing in presents. So I proceeded to get me something to drink and went back upstairs. The next day I asked my mama why were they bringing gifts in from the car and she just straight up and told me the was no Santa. I was more upset that she had lied to me this entire time.

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    Hey Hey!

I remember it was because Santa had given my sister and I a Super Nintendo to share. Then, my grandparents gave us some games for it later that day. At some point I thought, wait, if Santa gave us the Nintendo, then how did they know we would have the Nintendo to play games on? It was a bummer. But the Nintendo took the sting out of it.

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

    Hi Becky,

I can't actually remember when I thought Santa was real. I'm not sure we were ever "misled" about Santa. My dad always had a present or two for us from Santa but we all knew it wasn't real. It did get a little annoying when we had to keep it a secret from other kids our age who thought Santa was real. Other than that inconvenience, it never bothered me about knowing Santa wasn't real.

Re: How did you find out Santa wasn't real?

I was with my father when he was looking for something in his car trunk and I saw a baby doll and right before Christmas so I ask papa why you got a baby doll in your car he say is for your sister oh ok . So I told my siblings there is no Santa is papa and there is no kings either is mama I know . So I ask them to pretend to be sleep and let them think we are sleeping. So we did it and jajaja my mother though we was sleeping ., soon after she came and left my bedroom ,I got up and so my gifts. And so did my siblings we had fun letting them think we did not know.
