Going back to college after 10 years

    Hi fellow students,
I am going back to college after 10 years of being out. So much has changed. We get into the swing of everyday life. Starting again sometimes seems overwhelming. Sometimes it is good to look at this venture as an investment no matter the circumstances. Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lauren,

Going to back to school is hard! I did it after having 2 kids and it was a struggle at first because I couldn't do things the way I did the first time.

When doing my undergrad I studied during the day and in the evenings whenever it worked for me. When I was in grad school I had to wait until my kids were in bed. They couldn't let me be for 2 seconds if they were around when I was trying to study. I also noticed that there were a lot more distractions at home and that I always felt like I should be doing something other than studying. I did discover that I was still a procrastinator after all those years and that age didn't change that! LOL

I'm not sure if your situation is a lot different than the first time you went to school but go easy on yourself. You might have to change up your routine and things might take you longer than before. Consider different places to study. You will get back into it and enjoy the ride!

In the end it was fun to be a "school girl" again!

    Hey!

Good for you! I took a break between high school and college, but that was nowhere near 10 years.

I guess I would just say don't get discouraged by feeling out of place or behind or anything like that, though I don't know your exact situation.

    Have a good one!

Re: Going back to college after 10 years

    Hello!

Congratulations for taking that leap of faith and going back to school. I debated about it for many years and finally decided to do it myself and it was just over ten years from my first go around. I'm lucky that my daughter is older and understood that when I was working on school work she needed to leave me alone. My problem was and still is that I work 40+ hours a week and go to school online. There is always something that needs to be done in the house, whether it is dishes or laundry. It is a matter of learning to prioritize and letting some stuff go in order to get school work done.

Good luck and, once again, congratulations!
