Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Good morning, CNetters,

The holidays are here! Well, next week they start and the hustle and bustle begins and soon we'll be celebrating New Years! The year flew by!

As I start reflecting on my year, I was thinking about some of the good things that happened. And this leads me to my forum today:

What's the best thing that's happened to you so far this year?

For me, I have to say it was a combination of graduating from high school and earning a roster spot on the University's soccer team. To play collegiate soccer was something I dreamed about as a little kid! I made 40 instant friends who've made me feel right at home on campus. They are my new family, like brothers. It's been awesome.

I can't wait to hear about the best thing that's happened to you this year!

    Have a great Thursday.

    Jon

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

purchasing a used car and nearing the end of graduate school! feeling accomplished... perfecting my spanish.

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Hey Jon,

I would have to agree with you that this year has flew by, at least for me it has. It seems like yesterday my family was celebrating last year's Christmas and my son's 3rd birthday. It's hard to believe my son will be 4 in less than 2 months and that he possibly might start preschool in August 2019 if his name is picked from the preschool lottery.

As for the best thing that happened to me this year, besides winning my first scholarship on here, I would have to say finding out I have another niece or nephew on the way. Sadly my sister early this year had a miscarriage but is now pregnant again. They had been trying and their youngest is 3 years old so I feel there is a good age gap there as well.

Other than that I really can't think of a whole lot as this year has been pretty calm for me. I'm a stay-at-home mom and I already graduated so not a whole lot really goes on except my son reaching various milestones or certain events with family.

Thanks for the topic and hope you have a great day!

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Hi Jon,

The best thing that happened to me this year was I got to travel outside of the US and it wasn't to my native land, Bahamas. After 3 months of proper planning, I went to Costa Rica with a good friend of mine. We had an awesome time and even learned a few Spanish words and met some great friends.

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Hi Jon.

Those sound like great accomplishments! Graduation is a great accomplishment, for sure, but the sports accomplishments are probably super satisfying because not everyone does that!

I think the best thing that happened to me this year was that I was able to go to Iceland and drive around in a camper van for 10 days. I really love traveling, but I can't really do it as often as I want because of other responsibilities like work.

Iceland is a really beautiful country. It's so beautiful it's hard to explain it. I thought that I might get bored of driving around looking at stuff, but honestly, I think I could do it for a month without getting bored.

    Also, Iceland has GREAT food!

Thanks for the great forums. I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's answers!

    Best,

    Teebee

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Hey Jon,

Congratulations on your accomplishments this year! That's awesome. I bet your family is proud of you as well.

Teebee, traveling to Iceland sounds amazing. I have heard that it is very beautiful there as well! What kind of food do they have there as you said they have GREAT food?! Are there special delicacies there? I am curious! I hope to be able to travel like that some day.

The best thing that happened to me so far this year was just this week! After 10 months of hard training and private work outs and practice, I received a All Conference Award for golf! There are some really great golfers in our conference and I didn't categorize myself with them. I was really excited and surprised to receive an award!

Have a great day and thanks for the forum!

    Hey Hey!

Congratulations man! My best accomplishment this year is hands down finishing my 4 year degree. That monkey is finally off my back.

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Hey Jon!

    Congratulations on a great year!

My biggest accomplishments this year are similar to yours. I graduated from high school and earned a roster spot on my university soccer team. It is something I have been looking forward to for a long time! At this point, I have happy with my choice and I am enjoying being a college athlete!

I hope we all have another great year with many accomplishments!

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

Congrats on some awesome accomplishments this year! For me I would say that 2018 was incredible. I finished my second term teaching English in Thailand, then did a 3 month backpacking trip around SE Asia, and just made the move to Hawaii to start grad school! Its been a very eventful year and I only hope that 2019 can be just as good!

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

I switched my masters from business to education! I have a degree in business, but I really had no interest in it. So, I finally pulled the trigger and switched my masters to teaching! I'm a little scared and excited.

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Hey Jon!

The best thing that has happened to me this year is that I'm dating or will be dating the love of my life soon. I have liked him for three years and we have been hanging out more and more everyday. We hold hands but that is one a regular basis.

    Thanks for the forum.

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

    Good evening, Jon,

Congratulations on all your accomplishments! Your parents must be so proud! I'm sure your younger self would be, too. It's always good for one to reflect on their year and assess their strengths and areas in which they could use improvement. You seem to have had a year in which all your wonderful strengths manifested themselves into huge accomplishments!

The best thing that has happened to me this year had been earning Bengal Pride for the third year in a row. The Bengal Pride award is bestowed upon students who had superior grades in all their classes. It is an award for excellence in academics and citizenship. It's the highest honor you could receive at my school. This was so fantastic for me because I'd been doubting myself as a student. I thought I had to be perfect in order to be satisfied with my academic ability. I have a 4.1 GPA, so I definitely have faith in myself.

The second best thing that happened this year had been getting my first job! I'm sixteen, and back in October, I took initiative to ask my dad if I could go for na interview to get hired at a banquet hall just a few blocks down from where I live. I walked in, talked to someone in charge, filled out an application, met my boss, and when I listed off the names of the people I knew who work there, I got hired right away! I thought that was amazing! I was eager to start working. On the first day, I picked things up quickly and it looked like I knew everything I was doing despite being new. As I've said before, getting a job was a big deal for me. It made me feel grown up, and I love feeling grown up and self sufficient. I received my first paycheck about a week ago. It was exciting, I earned quite a lot.

This year did, indeed, go by fast. I have no doubt 2019 will be a productive, fulfilling, fun year for you.

    Thanks for the forum!
    Have a good one. :)

Re: Best thing that's happened to you this year?

I think the best thing that happened to me this year was getting a new job. It opened up a lot of possibilities for me and my fiance and has generally made my life less stressful: I'm earning more money, which allows me to contribute more to our joint finances. My hours are more consistent so I can have a routine. We work 10 blocks away from each other so now we can live together and take the train together in the morning, which means I get to spend more quality time with my fiance before we're married and generally have a less isolated existence.
