Do attendance points motivate you more?

    Hi CNet!

I was just talking to one of my friends about this the other day, and she said that she skips one of her classes all the time because it is at a time that she doesn't feel like going and there are no points motivating her to go. She said that if they would take and give her points for attendance it would motivate her to go more.

What do you think? Do you think attendance should be taken?

    Excited to hear your thoughts.
    Have a great day!!

    Hey rummom16,

While I wouldn't say that attendance points are the only motivating factor for me, they do help to keep me encouraged to habitually attend class. For example, for my classes, attendance does factor into the grade at the end of the quarter. However, I am mostly motivated by not wanting to fall behind in class by missing it, and that I learn the material much better from a instructor/lecturer than through self- study.

While not having attendance points definitely makes it easier to find an excuse to skip, I just think how I am paying for my education, and need to get the most out of that experience. By skipping class, I'm only really hurting myself. If I miss class, it is only due to something that I see as more important at that time. However, by going to class, I'm investing in my future.

    Good topic!

    Have a great day!

    Hey Rummon16!

I would definitely say they are a motivator!

I hardly ever skip class but sometimes you just need a mental break. All of the classes I would normally skip, all have attendance points. I think it is by design. Usually easier classes have attendance points because they know that if they didn't, no one would ever go.

For example, the classes I skip are Yoga and Materials. Both of them are considered to be on the easier side and they both have attendance points. If they didn't have attendance points, I am sure I would skip a lot more than I do. So far this semester I have only skipped those two classes once and that was because I was sick. If they didn't have attendance points, I probably would have skipped them two or three times, so I could focus on other things like studying for my Physics test.

I don't want the easy classes to be what drops my grade, so I always try and go. Plus, I am paying a lot of money to take these classes, so I might as well go. I want to be a good student but every now and then there is something more important than lecture!

    Have a great day!

Yes, they are definitely a motivator for me. My attendence is woth 15% of my grade so i am there bright and early every day lol.

    Have a nice day!

Yes attendance points do help motivate me to go to class. I feel like those extra points can help your grade somewhat. I try to receive every point I can get.
