    How do you relax?

    Managing school and work and a social life can be so stressful AND it demands so much of your time. It’s super easy for me to get so caught up in getting it all done that I don’t make time to just relax or do fun stuff.

    I’ve been trying to keep at least the weekend evenings free but even that’s hard sometimes because I’m so busy and so tired.

    How do you relax? Do you set aside specific time just to chill and have fun?

    I relax by taking it slow. Sleeping in a bit, reading, eating breakfast a little later. Just changing up my schedule from the normal grind is enough to relax me. Doing yardwork like mowing the lawn can be very relaxing for me too. Sometimes even weeding can be relaxing. You get outside, hear the birds and the insects, feel the breeze. There is a charm to it. Sometimes, hanging out with friends can be relaxing and really fun. Sometimes it is fun but not so relaxing lol. Sitting back and watching a movie or playing some video games can also be relaxing.

    I don't really put any time aside for relaxing: for me I just relax if I finish all I have to do lol.

    I listen to music to relax myself. It's usually classic music. I used to play the piano myself. It always helped me relax.

    Hello Laura!

    I would like to share some effective techniques that I have been using to de-stress myself:

    First, try out the magic of music; not those rock or rap music that you heard in parties, but rather classical / baroque music. You can easily find a mixed Youtube video containing a long list of Baroque, which I found very relaxing listening to.

    Second, if there are any sports that you love, definitely try to play it a lot more often (in a friendly rather than an intensely competitive environment). It would surely help improve not only your physical health but also mental health.

    Third, try to spare some time to hang out and talk with your best friends. If you have any concerns, seek their advice. If you are in a sad situation, share it with them. Believe me, talking to my close friends often make my day. After all, you know what people said: “a best friend is someone who makes you laugh when you think you’ll never smile again”.

    Last, briefly, take a moment to live a bit more slowly, go out for a walk and enjoy the beauty of nature :D

    Hey Laura,

    This forum is a good question for all of us. Relaxing is so important in balance, just as much as the working and socializing, but we tend to do it the least of all. Especially as students!

    I look to being immersed with nature to put me in my zen mode. I love hiking or walking around the block. Even hanging out in the backyard when it’s nice is so relaxing.

    Sometimes if I need to relax my mind I will pray or meditate or practice gratitude and this helps me to relax a lot. A lot of times my mind overruns!

    I relax by taking baths and reading. I love reading while in the bath, it requires no thinking just reading and emerging myself into a different world.
