    Things We Take for Granted

    Good Morning CNet,

    Happy Monday!

What is a luxury that you have and take for granted? What is something that you don't really appreciate until it's gone?

My power went out yesterday afternoon and it's still not back on. We had a storm yesterday and there are still a ton of outages in my area.

The outage made me realize that EVERYTHING in my house requires electricity. With a six week old baby, middle of the night diaper changes were a struggle last night in the dark as well. My husband and I were in the middle of some projects and we were about to cook dinner last night when the outage occurred. It was pretty frustrating and I can't wait til it's back on. I'm using my last bit of phone charge to complete CNET this morning. This experience made me realize how much I take electricity for granted.

I look forward to reading your responses.

    Good Morning!

I take my car for granted. I am nineteen and live in a city so having a car is not really a necessity. I could get around without it but it makes things so much easier to just be able to get in and go wherever and whenever I want. I will be moving to college next year and I think I am going to have to sell it. I know it's the best thing to do but also the thought of losing that luxury kind of makes me not want to do it.

    Have a good day,

I think we take life the most luxurious thing in the entire world for granted. That is number one thing because it's such a precious thing and we only have one chance to live but we spend it on things that are unnecessary. We take time for granted also. We take the air we breath in that is basically our survival in the world for granted. We don't take care of earth like we are supposed to instead we just make it worse as the years go by. I think that the entire human population takes everything that there is for granted. We don't appreciate and take care of things we have. Instead there is all this fighting and killing going on all around us. What for though??We are all going to die eventually. I just think that if we all appreciated things more such as our lives and other peoples the world would be a better place.

    Thanks for the forum,
    Have a nice day!

    Good morning,

I take my body for granted. I don't give it the right foods it needs sometimes. I shove the unhealthiest foods and later when I am in pain I complain about it. My husband broke his right leg four months ago and it made me realize how much I take my whole body for granted. We often would rather be inside laying down not doing a thing. When we can be outside being active. Ever since that happened to him, I take my son outside a lot more. I try to workout more and take care of my body a lot more.

We don't realize how much we have until something happens to it.

Oh boy, Megan, I sure know what you are talking about. We lose power for no reason on a semi-regular basis and we are very aware of how much we take that for granted. Our household has difficulty functioning without it. One time it was out for 5 days. I sure hope you get yours back soon. Diaper changes in the middle of the night are not fun for either you or your baby.

We have so much in our country and I think if we stopped to think about it, we all probably take everything we have for granted. We just get caught up in our lives and busyness that is easy to do.

    Thanks for the forum!

I take my parents for granted, as horrible as that sounds. Allow me to explain. My parents are my entire life...they are my role models and I aspire to be exactly like them. As much as i would want them to guide me through my entire life and have them by my side at all times I know that that can never be a reality. (unless they turned into vampires :p) Joking aside, sometimes I don't realize that one day they won't be there. It's things like this that remind me how I should appreciate them while they are here and thank them for their never ending love and support.

Re: Things We Take for Granted

Hi, Maria I totally agree with you. I take my parents for granted in all that they do for me, sacrifice for their children in time, money, and thoughtfulness. I know it, but at the same time I continue to take advantage of it. I think to myself that I will do better to show my appreciation and then I am again happy letting my mom make me an extra special meal, finding my favorite coat or picking up after me. I have a truck to drive and yet I have complained about it when my dad has put in new brakes and a transmission. I hope to return the favor someday and treat them as they deserve.

I think that one thing that I take for granted are my parents. They provided me with everything: love, money, food, a good life. Sometimes I get tired just driving to school and back and realize that my mom does everything from working to keep a house going, picking my siblings up from their school, driving my siblings to their classes. The older I get, the more I realize that i should give my parents more credit than I do and not take them for granted
