    Albums or Individual Songs?

    Hey everybody!

When you listen to music, do you prefer to listen to whole albums, or do you just listen to single songs on their own? For me personally, I almost always listen to the whole album. I feel that if the artist knows what they're doing, they shape the album and place the songs in the exact right places for the best flow and greatest listening experience. Plus, a lot of bands I listen to do story and concept albums, so it's hard to listen to them any other way! I've always been an album guy, but the majority of my friends look at me weird when I talk about my listening habits. So, what do you prefer? Albums or songs?

    All the best,
    Matt

    Hey Matt!

    I prefer whole abums too!

The songs as a set really illustate the musicians body of work. I feel that the order of the album is how the artist intended it to be listened to!

    Have a good ine!

    Hi, OSilentNightOwl!

I tend to prefer individual songs. It has been forever since I sat and listened to a whole cd. In fact, most of the time I listen to music it is off the radio so I don't ever know what the other songs on the album are like.

    Enjoy your day!

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

Sometimes the album if I like all of the songs on it, but other times I prefer single songs, especially if I don't care for the other songs on the album. Have a good day!

    Hey Matt!

I think it's been in the past 5 years where I have truly come to appreciate albums in their totality. Before I would be a music whore (for lack of a better word), and would just try to find as many new and undiscovered singles that I liked. As I've matured, I now am more selective in what I listen to and will always listen to an album all the way through. There may be a few songs from a specific album that I gravitate towards, but I only get to that point after giving the whole thing a listen a few times. You really can discover and distinguish amazing artists by their album composition as a whole!

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

Hi Matt - When I think about it, I am generally an individual song person. I know that the artists create their albums in a certain order on purpose and they are meant to be listened to as a whole, but it's pretty rare that I listen in that order. If I love the artist already, I'll buy the new albums often because I know I'll like at least 4 songs on it.

    Super interesting question!

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

Matt, totally agree with you on that one. I have a habit of listening to the album in full as well for the same reason you stated.. I definitely think an artist's goal when creating an album is to have it be a cohesive piece. Nothing is an accident, the order of songs on albums is almost always strategic and by listening to them in order you will recieve the artist's message/story better!

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

I think I prefer single songs, because I usually don't like every song on an album, so I like to just pick and choose the ones I do like. However, if I do happen to like every song, I will listen to the whole album

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

    Hello OSilentNightOwl's,

Short and sweet I'm like you I like to play the whole album, they have good songs.

    Happy Election Day!

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

    Hi all!

I usually listen to individual songs. It takes a long time to listen to a whole album and I usually have to stop and start it as I get up and do other things which is super disruptive and leaves me unable to focus. Sometimes I also just don't like all of the songs on the album and will just skip them which is similar to listening to individual songs (?).

    Thanks for the forum!

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

I actually prefer individual songs by a particular artist and rarely their entire albums.

    Re: Albums or Individual Songs?

    Hi Matt,
I love your question! I do prefer listening to whole albums and I believe it is an action that has fallen to the wayside. In the age of digital music downloads and such, so many people miss some of the best songs by not listening further than the current number 1 hit. Not so long ago, back in the day of cassette tapes, or goodness, even CDs, it was actually a bit unthinkable to not listen to every song the artist had recorded for you!

I truly believe artists must work harder to get their music out there and get songs exposed to the masses. Yes, we have so many more channels for listening and marketing music but how many people only search for that one song they know? Especially when it costs $1.29 and the entire album is $10-$15!
