Forum: He Who Has the Gold...
Subject: Re: He Who Has the Gold...
Oh, my parents did this to me all the time, and they still do it today
since they are helping to pay for my college. If they see me cubing
instead of studying ahead (which I've already done a bunch this summer),
they threaten me with everything. They threaten to take away my laptop,
downgrade me to a cheaper university that's not as prestigious,
sometimes even just slap me to a community college, as they are
contributing to my college education and don't want to see me screw my
four years. I don't think about it a lot, but money absolutely gives my
parents the power to smack the crap out of me.
I haven't gone that far into my life where I had to deal with money with a roommate. My only roommate so far has been my cousin, and we just go on with our lives. We pretty much don't have money issues since we are fortunate enough to have our parents help.
From my childhood experience, I fear this "more gold" problem a whole lot. Naturally, I'd probably fall quickly to someone who has more cash and pays my bills. I can see a Cinderella-and-stepmother relationship coming out of this (though that's pretty much an exaggeration).
Even though this works in the real world, I'm not sure it would be as powerful in the college world. The whole point of living with a roommate is to have a peaceful yet interesting environment to live in while mainly studying for your college education. If one has more power over the other because of money, then that goal is failed, and someone's probably going to move out and live somewhere else. Again, I'm overthinking and imagining a Cinderella situation here in terms of one dominating the other.
Bleh, terrible paragraph.
