27 year old anthropology major who's just trying to make the most out of life.
Likes: Sarcasm, Psychoanalytic babble, piano, Ayn Rand, Concerts, Dancing, taking scenic pics, random road trips, scrabble, coffee and hot chocolate, Christmas and all other holidays that involve gifts and/or decorating, playing pool, Rusty my psycho puppy, nature, philosophy, Eastern philosophy, Neuropsychology, Music music music music. getting lost, being found, parks, bringing my camera and capturing the moment everywhere I go, movies, my guitar I can't play, writing, living room Karaoke, Egyptian art and history, antique furniture, imagery, fabulous lyrics, tail-gating, laughing so hard we cry, experience, and just living in general.
I try to look beneath the surface of people and things whenever the chance presents itself..and I appreciate the differences I notice. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with all the information I've stored, until I realize I need all of it. I believe we gather pieces of the people we've met, as well as the experiences we've had, in order to build our own ultimate psyche. I believe in creating your own fate, but also recognizing the idea that it COULD be pre-destined.
I love spirituality and discussing the unknown. I think organized religion is beautiful, but completely ridiculous when it comes down to it. I believe in perspective and perception, and think it's important for everyone to consider the two before acting on anything. I love intellect and theories, and I'm sorry but if you don't have any, then I will probably be bored with you in 30 seconds.
I recognize the opportunity we have to be alive, and I live by understanding you may not get to do it again. I believe in being real, and really being. I love learning anything I can, any way I can- but I think the most we learn, is learned just by living... So here I am, learning it and living it everyday...
Please send me your votes... Like everyone else on the site, I really need the scholarship!

I am a senior in a high school located in good ol' Arizona. College is next year and as of now, I am planning on attending Northern Arizona University. Like many teenagers, I am not sure what I want to major in. However, I am leaning towards either Education or Psychology. I have always loved kids and have wanted to teach in an elementary school since I was young.
Here are some random facts about myself: I’m a Christian- I love Young Life! Orange juice is my favorite drink and PopTarts should be their own food group because they are just that good. I can quote Gilmore Girls and Reba all day long and not get bored. Country music is my favorite and I can sing every song on the stations. Even though I’m not very good at it, I love to sing and dance. I absolutely despise cheese in any shape or form. I am Asian and could eat rice with every meal. Taking adventures and being outdoors is a love of mine. Because I'm a very competitive person, I love to play sports. I am involved in volleyball and softball. I also love to make people laugh. You'll always see me with a smile on my face.
I think that is enough about myself. Have a great day, and thank you for visiting! :)

My name is Erin and I'm 23, living in Jacksonville, Florida. In my spare time I like to go to the beach, go to concerts (when I can afford it : ), and read. I have many other hobbies- I like to repurpose old 'junk', knit, crochet, paint, crafty stuff- all of it, gardening, and many other things.
I currently attend school at Florida Community College at Jacksonville right now, and intend to transfer to the University of North Florida upon completion of my two year degree in the Fall. With the help of loans, I have finally been able to go back full time.
Once I attain my AA, I will begin substitute teaching as it is my final goal to teach. In the big scheme of things, I would like to teach at college level, preferrably Art History, but find that I enjoy all types of History. At the current moment I'm not entirely certain where my path will take me, but know that I want to teach and I will accomplish great things with my career.
Thanks for reading!
Erin Beth
And By the By- A big thank you to collegenet and my supporters for the scholarship win back in September. I am looking forward to competing once again!

I'm a senior in high school. I always wanted to write novels but I might branch off into journalism for practicality. I have a knack for advertising so I might do something with public relations or just plain advertising.
I love Hofstra University and Pace University but they're very expensive so I will just apply and see if they give me any money. But scholarships would also help me.
-I love to write (ask if you'd like to read some of my work)
-I worked one summer at a college where international students enrolled to improve their English language skills and
-I volunteered helping the emotionally and physically disabled ride horses as a means of therapy
-I volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
-I volunteer as an usher at a music hall
-I love oldies music
-I love to try new things
-I love animals
-I love to meet new people
-I went to Spain over spring break
If you'd like to be friends, add me on facebook (I'm under Loren Alexander)or email me at lorenfay@verizon.net
I hope to get to know all of you better. =) Thank you for your time and this opportunity. I'm sorry that I wrote so much here.

Me? I'm nothing extraordinary, just your all-around average girl. Currently I am a senior in high school, residing in the state of Arizona. College is coming up quick, and I'm preparing myself in every way that I can for this huge step in my life.
My dream is to become a graphic designer. If you don't know what that is, take a look at all the labels, website logos, DVD covers, and advertisements around you- a graphic designer made those. I've always been very artistic and creative, and I guess you could say I've also always been somewhat of a computer nerd. I have the latest graphic programs and have been experimenting with graphics for the last six years or more. It's something I've constantly been excited about, and I still continue to be enthusiastic about my choice in this career.
I have a few different hobbies, but one seems to stand out the most. I love volleyball- I've practically lived on the court for the last five years. It drives me to do my best and has taught me that hard work and dedication can lead to great things.
Anyhow, I won't bore you with all the small details. I'm a very friendly person so I'm always open to new friends and new discussions. :)

Being an engineering major doesn't leave me with a lot of free time, but when I do get a moment off, I might take pictures, play some records, or help people with computer "stuff".
The lovely lady in the picture is my girlfriend, Jooyeon. The bit of money left over from paying my tuition fees this semester will help me go visit her as she has recently started attending the University of Missouri. D:

"No dreamer is ever too small; no dream is ever too big"...
Hello, my name is Jessilyn! I am a Freshman at Cal State Long Beach. I believe you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Many people think that you can't literally do anything you want to, but in reality you can. If you just take a step back and look at the world and how far we've come you'll see anything is possible. Every day miracles happen and dreams come true. I can take a step back and look at my life and how far I've come and I realize that I have done the impossible and continue to do it everyday. I believe everyone is unique and has something special to offer this world. I hope to meet as many people as I can in my life and change the world one step at a time. I am majoring in Psychology and I hope to help many people learn how to stay/become happy. I love my life and every day is brand new. If you fall just get back up again :) That's one of my mottos and it keeps me going everyday :)

A donation equal to 15% of my scholarship will be made by me to a relief agency that provides assistance to impoverished children.
Hey, my name is Nathan. I'm currently attending Keystone College with a biology major. Here's some more info:
>Goals (not necessarily in order of priority):
1. figure life out
2. aid in ending injustice and poverty
3. accomplish something, sometime
>Thoughts:
1. The more I know, the more I know I don't.
2. Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed. --Corita Kent
>Future Career Plans: Physician assistant (probably). Whatever career I end up choosing, it's my passionate desire to help those overlooked in this world.
>Reason for Career Choice: Medical knowledge seems as if it's an asset that is important/necessary for relief work.
>Financial Situation: Struggling; I don't receive any assistance from my parents/relatives for my college tuition.
>College GPA: Currently it's 4.0! I'll have a greater opportunity to maintain my GPA, since I'll have more study time due to my cnet scholarship.
>Favorite Movie (for now): The Dark Knight
>Favorite Bands: Lifehouse, Nickelback, coldplay
>Miscellaneous: I always vote for all responders to my forums.

I believe that anybody who puts their mind to it can have a success story with CollegeNET; but in order to do so, it's necessary to fully dedicate yourself to the site and the scholarship competition. Use all five posts, every day. Make sure your posts are thought-provoking, heart-felt, honest and original. Anyone who puts forth all of their efforts and perseveres can win. I made CollegeNET a priority in my life and I believe that is what contributed to my win. I worked really hard, wrote very thought-out posts and had fun with everybody.
One big hint is to remain respectful of other member's opinions. Most people will vote for somebody who disagrees with them if they make a sound argument in their post; however, if you insult others, you are only alienating potential voters. When I won, I had absolutely no "outside" votes. That means that my win came because member of CollegeNET respected me and enjoyed my posts and rewarded me by voting for me.
Another hint, keep in mind you are competing for a scholarship. You need to put forth the same effort on CollegeNET as you would for any other scholarship competition. While you should have fun, don't make the mistake of thinking that you can slack-off and still win a scholarship. Make sure your posts represent the best part of you. Think of each post as a mini scholarship essay that you are being judged by. Try to make sure your spelling and grammar are correct. Make sure that your post makes sense... if people don't understand it then it looks as if you didn't take your time or didn't care.
Thank you CollegeNET for having such an amazing site that allows people to compete for scholarships while allowing everyone to have so much fun! Most scholarships occur once a year... CollegNET is a year-round opportunity. The judges are your peers who learn who you are by your involvement with the site. I am so thankful that I was able to win a scholarship while having fun and meeting new people at the same time.
Good luck to all who plan on competing for a CollegeNET scholarship! It truly is one of the best investments you can make!

After thinking, I decided to write a little bit about me so you can all get to know me a little better. Here it goes!!
My name is Annette and I am 23 years old. I graduated high school 5 years ago and have been taking classes here and there at a community college as a nursing major. What has held me back is not being able to afford going to a four year college. After thinking for a while I've come to mind that a four year college isn't needed and I can soon get my degree in a two year, or some kind of special program to get it done faster and cheaper. I figured I'll still be learning what I need to learn. Some of my dreams in life is to complete college and become an RN and later become an OBGYN!
Many people come to me and ask me, "What made you choose to want to become a nurse?" Honestly, Ive known almost my entire live that ive wanted to dedicate mine to helping people and to try my hardest to put a smile on patients faces, even though they are stuck in a hospital bed. I want to give them not only hope that things will get better for them, but also help them and all others to realize that it only takes one smile to effect a persons life in a possive way.
The passion behind this dream, was fueled by the announcement that my younger brother was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Ever since that day I have been with him through every doctor visit, every medication he has to take, shots that I give to him, and every doctor saying it will never be cured. For this, I have been able to see what the medical field is all about and would absolutely love to be a part of it. My brother is now in remission and it was those doctors and nurses that helped him to achieve that. I am forever thankful to all of them for that. He can now move forward with his life after 9 years of the arthritis holding him back from his own dreams. Now it is my turn to be one of those nurses that make it possible to give back ones hopes and dreams.
I am looking forward to writing many posts and getting to know more about all of you. Goodluck on your dreams and hopefully I can help some of you to achieve yours with votes!
I'd like to take a second to say thank you to everyone that voted for me, and helped me to win the $1500 scholarship. You have no idea how this has helped me and my dream to become a nurse. To all of you, good luck and I will be here to help you all win as well!

Many thanks to all who voted for me. I'm not going anywhere, and I'll be voting for thoughtful Candidates all year.

My advice to other CNETters is to post consistently; I posted 5x per day, except for days when I wasn't near a computer (i.e. vacation, super busy, etc.). I was absolutely terrible at starting forums, so instead I just replied to others. I am also proud to say that I won without a single outside vote, which attests that posting thoughtful comments can get you far (no matter what others on CNET tell you!).
So thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me lessen my debt, so perhaps I can lead a semi-normal personal life at some point many years down the road (ha), while having the profession of my dreams. :)

I am a digital cinema major at DePaul. I feel that women are greatly under-represented in the realm of film, and I would like to be a person to change that lack of balance. I am working my butt off in the sweet city of Chicago, knowing that all my hard work will pay off.

While he was working and our children have gotten older I decided that I wanted to go to work. I worked in a nusing home os first as a nursing assistant and then moved on to the local hospital. I enjoyed my job and really enjoyed helping and caring for others.
Then my parents got sick and going through both of their sicknesses and staying at the hospital with them, The hospital was not the place for me any more. I have always enjoyed creating and making things with both of my parents.
I have dabbled in everything from Sewing, to Lampwork ( Glass Work). I Finally realized that I could actually go back to school and get a job doing something that I could enjoy for a very long time. My husband became disabled wehn I started school 2 years ago. He hsas been very supportive. He has become Mr. Mom while I drive an hour away every day for school. After I received my pastry degree he told me to re apply and go a head and get my degree in Culinary Arts. So that is were I am now. My Family is very Important to me and now it is on me to be the primary bread wiiner. I have really enjoyed learning the many techniques that are involved in cooking and in pastry. My Family are tired of me talking about culinary things all the time but they enjoy the homework. I know that I'm not at the hospital anymore but I still enjoy doing things for people but now I can make them happy by filling their stomaches.

This summer I am studying abroad in Australia for 6 weeks in a wildlife conservation program. I have never been so excited for anything before in my life.
I love dancing and have been doing it for the past 16/17 years. I used to dance very competitively, but after highschool I only have time to go to open classes every once in a while. Dancing 5 nights a week for hours on end is probably something I miss most in the world. It's such a stress reliever and so nice to walk into the studio and forget about everything bad going on because nothing can come between you and the music.

Thanku for voting for me. I really appreciate having won this scholarship. I intend on running again next year when I am re-eligible for winning again.
The 4,000 only pays for half a year of my schooling. So, it would be beneficial for me to win again next year (April 2010).
I was going for accounting but i just wasnt' getting it so I changed to business management. I will be finished with my two years in October of 2009 but will be going for a total of 4 years. After this, I am thinking about computer repair just because I want to know how to do it. NOt to use as a profession, but for my own personal knowledge.
Thanku.

I just want to thank Cnet for not only giving me the opportunity to win this scholarship, but to have given me the chance to meet the people that I have. I never would've thought that I would actually gain anything from this site, especially friends. And that has been the greatest reward.
Thank you to all who supported me, and I will be around and continue to support you.
Thanks again. =]

My goal is to become a Physical Therapist and concentrate on Athletic Training. I am intrigued by the body and how it works, so I decided that a career in PT would suit me, and I hope to get my B.S. After that I plan to pursue my dream and take my career down a path that coincides with my passion; which would be none other than motocross.

My name is Christina, I'm 20 and I am originally from way down south Louisiana, which makes me a Cajun :D The food is amazing and so is Mardi Gras. Yes I was affected by Hurricane Katrina but was my house was luckily spared. I now live in Jasper, Arkansas, which is located in the mountains, next to the buffalo national river, it is beautiful here. I attend Arkansas Tech University (ATU) and i am a sophomore . I am going for journalism and one day I want to be a photographer for the news or something of that sort. My friend Andi aka Andigirl showed me this website and I figured I would give it a shot because I owe my parents so much, and the reason why I want to win is not for me, its for my parents. My parents spent over 60 thousand dollars for my schooling from 1-12th grade. They put me in the best school system which was a Catholic school. And now they are paying for my college which is way more, So I think they deserve a break. And I really want to win this for them, to tell them thank you. I am an animal lover. I love cats. I have over 35 cats that both my mom and I have saved over the years. I am a proud and devoted Catholic. I also enjoy doing church stuff and being involved with the community. I love being involved with the St. Jude's Fundraiser, I think its one of the best causes out there. Well I think that's about it, if you want to know more just ask :) I have facebook and myspace, I would love to be your friend :)

I attend MSU, majoring in chemical engineering. I am currently classified as a junior.
So far, I have pretty much had to pay my way through college--either I got lucky with scholarships or I personally paid my bills. I am not a spoiled little college brat whose parents have paid for everything--mainly because my parents could not afford it. I am a college student running off my own steam and working my way through college.
I don't work during the semesters that I go to college. I worked two jobs this past spring semester to save up enough for college, especially with the fear of not finding a job later this fall. (I co-oped with a company and worked in the mall.) I went to school this summer, and am now back at my co-op. I'll have a second job during the holidays too.
As a ChemE, I hardly find time for myself, much less a full-time or part-time job. So, like any college student, I struggle with finances and schoolwork. The semesters that I am at school are ones where I have no income and I have to live on what I tried to save up!
My goal is to one day end up in the history books for contributing...something amazing...to the world!
I'm also engaged to my high school sweetheart <3 We dated for 3 years, and then he proposed. Now we've been engaged for 8 months.
In my (rare) spare time, I love to play on my Nintendo DS, play computer games like Shaiya (RPGs), write fan fiction, write poetry, play with my dogs, listen to music, surf the web, read books, and watch movies. Favorite movie of all time: RENT!
I love the smell of rain. I also love to drive with my windows down and music up! ^_^
Oh yeah, and I have an obsession with peace signs. I have peace signs on a lot of things...clothes, jewelry, and even on my luggage set and wallet XD
<My picture is that of Sailor Neptune. Yep I'm sort of an anime nerd! Lol>

I am a vegan and an environmentalist. I advocate civil rights, including gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender rights. When I hear racist or any type of prejudice comments, I will more than likely say something. I enjoy playing guitar and attending musicals on my free time (when I actually have free time). I do not get enough sleep, I dye my hair a lot, and I spend way too much time on the internet. I do not consider myself a religious person, however, I consider myself a spiritual person, and my morals are similar to that of a Buddhist.
I enjoy helping people, and will participate in community service when able. I am an active blood donor, and am planning soon to donate plasma.
Education is extremely important to me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to receive the education I am currently receiving, though I wish I did not have so many loans looming over my head!

Collegenet is a wonderful website, do not doubt it. It has given me the opportunity of continuing with my education and has awarded me twice. I am very proud to be part of this wonderful website, but most of at all, I am proud to be an active member.
When my time comes to compete again, I will be requesting your support. In the meantime I am here to support any student that comes to me sharing an opinion, a belief, a fact or just a thought responding any of my forums, yes, you will get my vote. I would love to go to the University of Southern California or University of California at Los Angeles in pursing my route to Pre-Med. I aim to be a pediatrician as my family doctor has inspired me; but if all else fails, I would like to pursue the profession of a physical therapist. I'm REALLY looking forward to college and its atmosphere; eating in the cafeteria with prepaid meals, hanging out in the dorm, kicking back and chilling, studying up all night long, and most of all, a new world.
Some of my hobbies are tennis, soccer, eating new foods, playing video games, and anime =)

Immersion in Froth by: Moi
I am liquid soap, free to roam inside my container as I please;
Harmless to the touch, deadly if you dare;
With a squirt here and a squirt there, water and friction become my two best friends;
Patience is a virtue when counting down, for sanitation to take in effect is a must;
Easy to use, easy to dispense, easy to make haste yet with not so much waste;
As simple as I may appear, complexity is in the air;
Applied on hands, applied to clean, applied to assist, a helping I must;
My atoms take shape wherever I may go, survival of the fittest I do and must know;
Whether it’s the fragrance of cherry blossom or minty green, I will always be my own liquid soap.

Hi, my name is Tiffany, I am now a freshman at Southeastern Community College. I am thinking about majoring in Business, I also want to do something with the study of Abnormal Psychology and Animal Care taking (you have to get a certified card saying you can watch animals...) on the side. Whether I am able to do that is another challenge
I have to be honest with you, I've had a really shitty summer, first my mother and I were threatened that our house was going to be foreclosed, now by the end of the week we will find out if it happens. My mother had a vehicle accident (something we can't afford) and totaled her truck, and then my car broke down. All in the month of July right around my birthday.
The only thing that really kept me going was me going to school and not having to pay for it, it's a big relief when you don't keep know if you will have a roof over your head..

My mother is from Haiti and also lives there( I grew up there and was also raised there). All her life, until now, she strived/struggled in order to get me a better education from the one she had....
My dream is to become a physician(a doctor) in order to help the most infortunate. Going to the doctor without having any healtcare insurance, I know that. I lived this situation because I do not have any insurance....
Sometimes things get tough. My major requires a lot of courses. Sometimes I ask myself if I will always be able to respond to my economic demands. A scholarship will be a big support for my mother and I, and later others will beneficiate from my work because I believe that my mission on earth is to help those that are in need of medical care but cannot really afford it.

Well what else to say about me? I am from Haiti. People who heard about my country know that unfortunately its a poor country. Anyway, I am currently in Smyrna, GA to fight hard, and get a good education, which I can't get from Haiti, and go back to help others. This is why I really hope to win any scholarship available. Thank you guys for your understanding and your votes.
Beside that, I love sports and music...I like playing basketball....I also play the violin, the bass, and the piano...

A big thanks to CollegeNET for providing this corner of the web where students can hang out, discuss and get the great opportunity for a scholarship!
And thank you CollegeNET and for everyone who voted for me! The opportunity and support means more to me than words can say.
For those of you who don't know me I'm a "non-traditional" student who returned to school/work after 10 years. I learned it was hard to find a job after a 10 yr resume gap and no college degree. After getting back on track, I finally was able to finish my Associates, then worked towards a Bachelors. Last year I reached that goal and I've decided to chase my dream of getting an MBA degree, I'm excited to say 1/2 way there!

I am a non-traditional student working my way to get a second degree to help me and my family for the future. I hope that that college.net considers me for some scholarships. They are not many websites out there to help single income homes. I want to make a better life for myself, and this money will help me achieve my goals.

On a more personal note, I've been married for two years, and my hubby and I have two awesome dogs: a lab and a papillon. We don't have kids yet (aside from our dogs), because I want to be able to devote as much time and attention to them as possible, and I can't do that while I'm still in school.
Anyhow, that's a little bit about me... you can find out more in my posts. :)

If what I say makes you angry, then I'm glad. Americans should be more passionate about what's happening around them. If I offend you, I might be sorry. But you shouldn't be too hurt about a response a guy makes to you on the internet. Be a stronger person.

one of the most important things i think societty could do for itself would be NOT to judge people based on a group they belong to (age, sex, race, etc...) but rather judge them as the individuals they are. It would be injustice to do otherwise.

My name is Angela Rodarte. I have lived in the Palm Springs area my whole life. I'm currently attending College of the Desert to recieve my A.A. I plan on transfering to the Design Institute in San Diego to become an interior designer.
However, I don't know if my plans will fall through. My father died in a car crash in December. Our family has not only taken a great emotional loss, but also a financial one. I've been applying to lots of scholarships at my school, but haven't heard back from anyone. I am hoping and praying that I find a way to get myself through school. Education was so important to my dad. He came from a poor family of 4 children. My dad was the youngest, so by the time that he was ready for college, his parents didn't have the money. He always encouraged me to do what I loved and most importantly to finish school. By going to college, I'm not only fulfilling my dreams, but also his.

I am back, sorry I have been gone a long time, school and work have been crazy!!
Here is my profile:
I am just a girl who is trying to pay for college. I work full-time and go to school full-time and I still cannont afford to put myself through school. I cannot get financial aid because my parents make too much money. They obviously did not take into account that I have five other brothers and sisters one of which is in college as well. I just want to be able to finish school so I can put the rest of my family through college so they don't have to work full-time like I do. Thanks for reading this hope everyone has a great day!!

I went to 4 different high schools, 9 schools in all. I have faults and quirks like everyone, but I value my education highly.
Some of my favorites: ice cream, music, politeness, writing, comfy beds, Texas, being generous and helpful

Hey! I am currently finishing my degree at Tulsa Community College and looking to transfer to Oral Roberts University in the fall. I work three jobs and volunteer with various ministries around town including Young Life. I am doing everything I can to get scholorships so I will be able to continue my education at Oral Roberts so I will be better equipped to make a difference in the world.
It has been my DREAM to attend ORU since I was 16 years old and at this point the only thing that could possibly hold me back is finances so I can use all the help I can get!
I love to help people and if I can find a good way to do that with my life then then the goal will be met. As you can tell I'm a pretty busy bee with very few funds so getting this scholarship will mean so much!

At 31, I just started school in January 2008. I haven't been in school in ten years so it's a little overwhelming. You know, I don't have the computer skills that some of you young whippersnappers possess!! Don't get me wrong, I can check my email, but I've got a lot to learn.
I am going to Portland Community College right now, but plan to transfer to Oregon State University to major in forestry.
Originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, I moved to Oregon almost six years ago for the hiking. I love the mountains, the waterfalls, the ocean, the wildflowers and everything else this beautiful state has to explore. In the summer, I spend every weekend in the forest and I am looking forward to spending my life there.
I live in the city with my chef boyfriend and our two cats and spend my limited free time practicing yoga, taking pictures and running endless errands!! It never ends!

Hi! My name is Marlyn. I would like to pursue my BA in Business.
I'm indecisive right now, Business emphasis in Accounting or Healthcare.
I still have one year for making a final decision, though.
I'm taking my core studies at a community college because it's a lot cheaper. But eventually, I will have to transfer which will costs 2x or 3x more than current tuition. I'm paying for my own tuition so I need this extra $$$.

Well, let's see, I am a forty year old woman. Wife to a wonderful husband and mother to four great kids ages thirteen to twenty-six. I have decided it is time for me to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher. Years ago I went to beauty school and have enjoyed my time of making someone feel special, but feel it is time to make an impact on today's teenagers. I would like to teach 7th grade and higher.
My kids are great kids. I have played everything from Barbies to Legos. I even have an account on Runescape and play with three of my kids online. Kids now days don't have the same interests that I did as a child. Rather than try to make them conform to me, I have choosen to walk their way, to a degree. My two youngest are boys and I am supposedly the Mom of the Year to them and their friends. I chaperone many events and have been told I am the 'cool or kewl' Mom.
My kids know they can talk to me about anything, regardless of what the discussion is, even if I am not comfortable with the subject. Sometimes in life, we have to sacrifice our comfort to explain or answer questions. Some of our conversations have been about sex, some of drugs. Mostly, they have been about school and friends. I guess some parents are not always willing to sacrifice comfort. The answers I give are not always what they want to hear, but I know I answer them to their level of maturity. Because of my experience with my teenagers and friends, I feel I can be a positive influence for other teens.
We have four cats and two iguanas. I feel pets are important for children, because it teaches responsibility, compassion and unconditional love.

Hm, what can I say? I'm old. I'm an old undergrad trying to get my degree in Biology. I'm old because I work full time, go to school part time, and classes I take are dependent on what I can fit around my work schedule and my budget (did you ever notice that you work in a job, but everyone else seems to get your money?) I have returned to college after 15 years with the hopes of finishing my degree and taking what I've learned in the classroom and in the real world to improve the quality of life of individuals and families living with autism.
Presently, I'm preparing for graduate school for a Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis, Autism Studies and working as a therapeutic support staff with children.
I am also working on autism awareness within my community to encourage additional programming to support individuals and families.

My name is Sheldon a.k.a TwistyWristy, Twisty, TW and a few other nicknames but they are usually used when someone's mad at me and consequently aren't very nice (so I'd prefer if you chose one of the former ones =]).
I'm a Junior at WGU studying towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology (IT).
I have been crazy about computers ever since the age of two when I used to play on the Commodore 64.
My favorite game was Epsilon IV; I have fond memories of half-jumping, half-falling over the bars of my bed or crib first thing in the morning, slipping into my brown puppy slippers and dashing off to my parents room to ask if it was okay to play.
Though my true passion is designing and programming computer games, I do web design development and web coding to help cover tuition.
I mostly work with PHP, MySQL and JavaScript.
One site that I've created is CNET Underground, a place for CollegeNet members to chat, discuss and get to know each other better, without any post limits or the pressure of a scholarship.
Check it out, we'd love to have you:
http://www.cnetunderground.com
If you have any technical questions or you're interested in learning about web design, don't hesitated to ask and I'll do my best to help!
Outside of computers, I eat, drink, sleep and a few other things.
One of these few other things for instance is reading.
Neil Gaiman is a newly discovered favorite after Skaterdude recommended I read "American Gods".
Old time favorite authors include James Patterson, Orson Scott Card, Tom Clancy, Dan Brown, Stephen Frey and Issac Asimov.
Another other thing is writing.
I've written a few short stories when I was younger; amongst the first was a horror about a worm that turned out to be a giant killer worm monster.
Probably, someone who read a little too much Goosebumps.
I have a few neat ideas for sci-fi stories that I really want to work on and hope to have published one day; currently, I am working on a Hitchhikers parody, partly for fun, partly to see if I can make people laugh and partly to see if I can make it any good.
Art is another interest, in particular, creating backgrounds and Wallpapers in Photoshop. I also like sketching and drawing cartoons on paper... perhaps it would give you a better picture to say I like *trying* to sketch and draw cartoons.

My family and I love spending most of our free time outdoors and love camping, fishing, hiking, ect. I also help coach our daughters softball team, which is awesome.
I picked this pic because my 2 year old has slept with his baby Snoopy every night since he was born, and loves anything Snoopy, so the whole family has basically adapted to a new world with Snoopy being a top priority.

My name is Akum Lee and I am a freshman at Oakwood College. I have a passion for Business Marketing and hope to one day use my degree as a way to help people in the future.
On my free time I love to play basketball, run track, and eat some good home cooking! I’m also a family health and education representative. As an FHER, me and my family go into impoverished communities to assist people who are unaware of the value of healthy living and education. Many are suffering from illnesses that could be avoided by very simple lifestyle changes. We give free health seminars, cooking classes, and books, all in hopes that with this information, they can make easy modifications to save their lives. I feel very privileged to be in this work, and hope to combine it to a greater skill with my business marketing degree in the future.

so call me "mr greycloud bear" if you please...or felt like the wind..or for those who know me from ages ago greatvoice (gv for short)
contrary to the gruff rough exterior and hard pounding opinions, i am a very kind, loving, eclectic person. I write as a hobby that evokes deep feelings, and have been published.i enjoy art and it's expressionism..from paintings and graphics to music and film. most people love me or hate me..isn't that life? **note** this is all to be a bit tongue in cheek. and with a bit of dry humour.
in case you are wondering about the picture, it is artwork done by the great Peter Saville of PSA. work reminds me of art deco/nouveau/gothic.
i am called a native english teacher because i teach english as a second language and my first language is english. i teach esl outside of the states.
i am also a doctoral (PhD) candidate in Adult Education. Who knows I may be your teacher one day in some other subject than English, perhaps cultural studies or something. I was a trainer before and I made people think. I used many tools in training as i do in teaching. It pays to think here too!
If you would like to vote for me here, that would be appreciated kindly! yes, you can vote for me! see the vote button!:)~

i am who i am and that's all i can be
i am the water and the wind..my voice speaks with the crashing waves of life, and the wind is how my thoughts touch you. i am often quiet and never heard, but you know i have been there or here...
I also have motor skills issues, and though that is my issue, it also has to do with who i am and my words.
I am not one to believe in god, though I have my spirits that guide me. (there is a diff yes.)

The road on fulfilling my dream had become long and harsh. At times, I wanted to give up, but my dreams carried me on. Truth is I really want and need this scholarship, as we all know books, supplies, tuition, and fees had become a burden for many college students. I decided not to let my financial burdens become a reason why I did not fulfill my dream. Actually, there is no reason why I cannot fulfill my dream. If you can dream it; you can do it.
I volunteer at helpmate ( a domestic violence shelter ) . I am also participants for breast cancer walks.. aids walk..etc. I volunteer at petsmart for the adoption center.
And NEVER give up on your dreams. Because dreams do come true... =)

Name's Chris Rios. I'm 19 and I'm 6'2. I'm in the Honor's college at the University of South Florida. I aspire to be a lawyer or a doctor, let's see how life goes. I'd like to think I'm an outgoing person. I definitely like to go out. I enjoy eating (Yea!), hanging out, going to the beach, and traveling. I enjoy meeting people, so if I don't know you don't be shy to come up and say hi, that is if I haven't already. I'm interested in changing things. I'm not exactly what I'm going to change in the future, but I know the change will be big. I do my best to be a gentleman. I'm in college to learn, so if I get off track let me know. I am very shy, but when I feel impelled to, I will voice my opinion and why it is important to me. I am also very stubborn and will stand for what I believe in even when the odds seem greatest.
As it says below, I will be attending Spelman College next fall and with all the college credits that I have plus the AP tests that I will be taking this May,I plan to enter Spelman College as a sophmore!! I have new goals that are born all the time and let nothing hinder me from achieving them.

I was looking at a very prestigious university close to me, however when trying to enroll, they were only talking about transferring less than 1/3 of my 60 credits, and they wanted me to provide syllabuses for every class I took during my previous studies. This would take 3-4 years to complete my Bachelors.
It has been 11 years since I finished my associates. The first 8 years in computer networking was great, but over the following 2 years I was unemployed for 11 months, nearly losing everything. I have been working the last year, but at 17% less than what I was making. I am living paycheck to paycheck, and giving up my house to return to school. I haven't sold it yet, and the equity was taken during unemployment. But they all say I make too much to "qualify" for any help
After some recommendations, I am going to University of Phoenix. They are accepting 52-53 credits out of 60, and are designed for "non-traditional" (gotta love that term) students. I hope to find some help paying for my endeavors.

I'm a strong believer in freedom of speech and I believe that everyone has an opinion and no opinion is right or wrong. I think this site is great and I really enjoy reading everyone's posts and responding to them.
I wish everyone the best of luck in college and in getting scholarships to pay for it. I know college is very costly. I'm still paying for my past degrees while working towards my biggest one. I don't qualify for grants and I'm to my max in loans. I will be paying for my college through scholorships and self pay from here on out.
I commend everyone for pursuing a college education. That is the best decision anyone can make in life. Without college education there is just no way possible to succeed and make a great life for yourself. I sure wouldn't have the job I have now without it.
Good luck to everyone!!!!

*~* Old Profile Message *~*
I made a new profile message since i thought the first one wasnt really that great. Anyway, I'm from the Philippines and my real name is Johanne. My friends just call me Joh. Amelie is my french name.
Moving on... my family and i have been going back and forth from the Philippines to the US. (It gets a bit tiring after a while.) When i finally got back in time for college the prices were so high!!! Also it is a bit hard to get scholarships and other stuff because... well you all probably know how hard it is to get them.
My chosen profession costs a lot of money. It will also make me have to go to school for about 13 more years after high school. But that's alright with me, i like going to school. (hehe!) I plan on becoming a forensic scientist. Yes, i know, a doctor for the dead??!! is she crazy??!! Maybe... maybe not... hehe... it's not so much as doctoring dead people but about being able to prove who the killer was and helping out the concerned family in distress.
I love helping other people out. That's why i volunteer at my community a lot. For now, what im really worried about is the money that i need to pay for college (isnt everyone?!) and going to college itself! But then again, i think it will prove to be pretty exciting.
I just thought to go with an anime picture depicting my favorite color...GREEN!!! lolz!!!
I may sound childish but I'd do anything to make my dreams come true... (especially since everyone thinks that im gonna make a mistake and end up as a failure... I want to prove them wrong, as much as for myself and to them.) I actually want to thank them for thinking that way because it challenged me to show to them that im not someone who gives up that easily. And seeing as how I have a personality that just never backs down from a challenge, well they were asking for it...lol!!!
I wish everyone here goodluck!!! I hope all your dreams come true as well!!! BTW I enjoy reading everyones' posts... I wish that everyone will be able to get something from this website even if it's not money... ^_^

I'm a peruvian girl and I'm very happy to be in US and be part of CollegeNet! :)
I came here first to participate in a Panamerican Karate Competition to represent my country in Dec 2001. Once here and after getting tha gold medal for Peru ( :D :D ) I decided to stay and continue my education here.
I can say it's been tough living away from my family while trying to get adjusted to a new life style, language and law, but I'm also thankful of the things I've learned being because of them.I'm currently studying at a local college to continue pursuing my dream to become a teacher, while working full time as a teacher assistant with precious little four-five year olds.I'm also a lion's club member from Peru, have opened a non-profit dog shleter in Peru along with other students, and I'm a member of the Phi Theta Kappa in my school. There's nothing more joyful than to help in the community to make it a nicer place to live.
Again, if you think I deserve a vote, please vote for me!! :) (PLEEAAASE, make sure to uncheck the anonymous voter box before you vote :) )I wish everyone good luck with this month and have a blessed day :)

I'm 38 and happily married to a wonderful woman that has somehow put up with me for the past 8 years and I could never be happier...well, the free scholarship money couldn't hurt.
I'm currently in the Army working as a Nuclear Biological & Chemical Weapons Defense Specialist (thus, the nifty avatar to the left - it's not me, but it's still kinda' cool).
When I'm not defending the free world, I'm reading, listening to music, chatting with the wife, or enjoying my addiction to video games.
I'm hoping to get back into college and study criminology with a focus on counter-terrorism. It's real. I've seen it, and I want to do everything I can to stop it.
My basic philosophy of life has always been "Find Your Own Truth". Never accept what is handed to you. Always question and never be afraid to question yourself.
After enjoying over four months of posting I've decided to move on. It has been fun, but I no longer have the time for it. If anyone's still interested in my musings look for me on Helium. It shouldn't be that hard to find me. I post under the handle of David Furritus. Hope to see some of you there.
(for what it's worth, as a winner I get an infinite number of votes to hand out every month. If you'd like one drop me a line. If I like your postings I'll give you one. If not, I'll at least tell you why:)

I'm a biology/chemistry student at San Francisco State University. I have been here for one year and met and worked with some amazing people in the Bay Area. I work three jobs (about 50 hours/week) and I'm taking classes! When I'm not studying or working, in my spare time I love to sleep and read. It's pretty boring and uneventful right now, but all of this work (I hope) will pay off eventually! I also work with preschool kids in an Americorps literacy program in San Francisco call Jumpstart. It's been extremely rewarding and I may continue this next year.
I hope to become a researcher in a field within chemistry (not sure what yet) after going to grad school.
This website is a great idea. It's hard to decide who to vote for. When I received ballots from participants on the site and from friends and family, I cast my ballots for a whole bunch of people. I didn't really pick and choose because EVERYONE is writing great, thoughtful posts. Getting your friends and family to vote is a great way to get people to join the site and write their own posts. I've never written a blog or even posted on a website before, so this was all new to me. The key is to vote for as many people as you can. I read lots of posts and they were all fun and interesting reads.

A little bit about me: I'm a 33 year old college student longing for the golden ticket to a high paying job that will leave me financially secure for the rest of my life. Actually, I just thought it would be a good investment to obtain a college degree and make the most of the opportunites available to me! I'm a huge animal lover (my dog, Buudy Love, is completely spoiled), and I'm also very proud of my Native American heritage - my mother is Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux and my father the Cherokee tribe.
In June of 2009, I will become a first generation college graduate. I graduated with honors and an Associate's degree in liberal arts from Spokane Community College in 2007. I have since moved on to the "big" university - Eastern Washington University, go Eagles!! I finished my minor in Visual Communication Design this quarter, and I start the classes for my major - Communication Studies - this summer.
I like to consider myself a jack of all trades with many talents - I was an air traffic controller in the United States Army, a computer programmer, a bartender, a real estate agent, an artist, a confidant to my friends, and currently I am a supervisor in a call center. Glamorous, I know.
Even though I've already won a scholarship from this site once, it would really help me out not to have a mountain of debt by the time I graduate...so a vote for me would be much appreciated!
Good luck to all!

I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh, but I am originally from Maryland, in a city just outside of D.C. Going to Pitt was kind of a fluke decision. I never thought I would live in another city, but now that I do, I love it. I've met people that I truly believe will be in my life forever, and I want to keep it that way. Unfortunately, my father believes that 28,000 dollars a semester is not going to happen, and wants me to live in-state, and instead, pay 8,000 dollars a semester. I wouldn't blame him for wanting to save what ultimately, is going to be his retirement fund (and he's worked so hard for it), but I love my new life, and my new school. This site is one of the only chances I have at meeting my father half-way.
That said, I have an interesting, open, and HONEST point of view. Part of that has come from being in a new environment, and the other part comes from being a bit of a kook. Even if I don't get that many votes, I can't resist a chance to get out an original thought. Please, disagree with me! It makes me think more carefully about the statements I make, and is conducive to a healthy discussion (which equals a good time)
With that said, let the voting begin...

I am a first generation college freshman at Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts that with any luck will transfer to her dream school, Simmons College in Boston, next year.
I say with any luck because financial difficulties (like us all) stand in my way. This is why I am so excited to have discovered this fantastic website! Not only is it a way to *hopefully* win some money, but I am also saving the sanity of my friends and family in the process (people may call my shy but if I know you damn can I talk your ear off about anything from politics to that weird dream I had).
Last summer I had THREE JOBS. I had a paper route in the morning which required me to wake up at 2:00. I usually got home around 6:30 am and then slept for a *few* more hours until my next job at Wal-Mart in the photo lab from 9 to 4. From there I would normally go to my third job at a home décor store called Kirkland’s from 5 – 10 pm. If I was not completely burnt out by this point I would go hang out with my boyfriend and other friends until about 12:30 but always have to leave early due to my early morning paper route. My summer last year sucked job wise but I needed the money to go to college. At the moment, even though I have worked my ass off throughout the summer and have a sales job currently during school (where I am a full time student), I still cannot afford college.
PLEASE VOTE FOR ME I TRULY NEED THIS MONEY!! THANK YOU
I am currently trying to decide between majoring in English teacher education or marketing/ public relations for nonprofit companies. I truly want to help make the world a better place. Some people may be motivated by money, but I am motivated by helping others who are struggling. There are so many problems in the world today ranging from war, to poverty, to global warming, to everyday stress but at the same time there are also so many things to be grateful for that we sometimes lose sight of this fact. Whichever field I chose, my goal is to help people with their struggles so that they realize what makes life worth living and why it is so important to protect each other.
You may call me too idealistic, but rather idealistic than cynical I say.

My family is involved in attempting to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis society and I hope to become an active supporter as well upon completion of my Doctorate. Please support this excellent charity :)
As for my background... I'm the first in my family to attend a university and receive my bachelors. I have no intention of ending my education any time soon and I believe its important for each generation to set the standards a little higher for each successive generation to come. I was accepted at every university I applied to for my graduate program, including the number one school in the nation for my program, but I accepted at the same school I did my undergraduate work. Every school I applied to had such amazing programs it was probably the most difficult decision in my life. Either way, I eagerly look toward the future with hope and excitement!

My son is currently in custody of his grandmother (on his dad's side <she's not always very nice to me either>) and I'm trying to get custody back (and I need a better job so I can do that). I'm also divorced!!
I am back at college because, I need to get a good paying job that I enjoy!!!!
I'm over $30,000 in debt!!!!!!
And school will add another $27,000 to it!!
I also have to get major dental work done (I fell when I was younger and messed up my front teeth) and my dental insurance doesn't cover it because (even though I HAVE to get the surgery) they consider it 'cosmetic'. I've gotten the first surgery (my two front teeth are fake <they are like a denture that I can take out>). So, it's been tough these last few years.
I stay very optimistic through all of these issues in my life. Cause I know I have good things coming to me. Good KARMA will come my way soon.
So, PLEASE help me out and vote for me!!
I'll vote 4 u 2!!!!!!!!!!!!
I REALLY NEED THIS! THANX!!!!

My name is Allison. I am gonna get back in the game hopefully by December. But for now, I'm just out voting, as I hope you can help me out too... my cat is very ill, please vote for him on http://mornings.ktu.com/pages/contest/cubby_cats/
His bills are higher than the contest reward.
I'd appreciate it!!
I am a returning "adult" student. Starving student at that. I am 39, but look and feel like a 29. I lost my job and that was the turning point in my life when I realized that I needed to go back and finish my education, to fulfill my life long dream of becoming a nurse. So here I am, fulltime at college and no income. They say money doesn't grow on trees but I am hoping for a miracle or at least lotto or a scholarship. I'm originally from Long Island. I currently reside in 'arctic' Minnesota. Actually the winters have not been too bad. The cost of living is cheaper than Long Island and the summers are warm and beautiful. Makes me feel like being home on the Island. If I do happen to win this scholarship, it would be hard to return the money, however, I can give back on a social level, I volunteer and when I do become a nurse, I'd give patients the care that they need and deserve! I will be an operating/surical nurse or and emergency room nurse.

-My lender has gone under and I haven't been able to get a student loan. If I don't pay off my account by December, I'm going to have to drop out. =(
-I already have $80K in student loans.
-I am the youngest of four and come from a single parent home.
-I am a Resident Assistant and therefore do not pay for room & board.
-I now have to take summer semesters until I graduate, so I don't have the opportunity to work full time and save money anymore.
-I am very grateful for having won this scholarship before and genuinely enjoy discussing various topics with other candidates.
-I wish everyone the best of luck, and study hard! =)

I am an international student striving to become a proficient software engineer. I came to America almost four years ago. I was born in Quito, Ecuador, but my family lives in Bogota, Colombia. I have tried to make the most out of my experience in America by obtaining and maintaining a 4.0 GPA in engineering 4 years in a row, volunteering, working as a tutor, and playing tennis for my university.
Unfortunately, it is quite difficult for my parents to afford quality education in America with money earned in Colombian Pesos. Obligatory out-of-state tuition and limited eligibility for federal and private financial aid for international students have made this endeavor really hard for me and my family. My parents have made a lot of effort to bring me this far, and I'm thankful for that. This is why I have set a goal for myself: I am going to finance my own college education. It's the best way I can show my gratitude to my parents and continue my education.
I really appreciate every single vote I get. It might seem like a small thing, but every vote takes me closer to my dream! Thank you for voting!
Being on CollegeNET has been one of the most educational and fun experiences I've had. Thank you CollegeNET for this great opportunity.

I wrongfully thought (and believe me, it was the first time I've ever been wrong) that my first go around would have knocked enough sense into people to have a perfectly functioning world. No worries, I have returned to set everything right with a sense strong sense of logic and a set of non-relegious morals (yes, morality did exisit before the bible). You won't find me begging for votes or whatnot, I'm mainly just here to open minds (including my own). You also won't find me apologizing for my opinions or viewpoints (if you don't believe yourself right, then you shouldn't be talking/posting). If you have problems with sarcasm, you might want to move along to another post. Other than that, sit back and prepare to be enlightened.

At first I was very skeptical about joining the CollegeNET
scholarship competition because it seemed too good to be true. Nevertheless I informed many of my community members to please help me with their votes (as they did)!! As result my community believed in me and helped me continue my studies. Now I can proudly say I was the 2nd place winner of $3,000!
My advice to current CollegeNet candidates is to inform your community about your scholarship entry and studies, resulting in more votes and support.
CollegeNet is an awesome program, I definitely look forward to participating again next year!
Good Luck!
