Forum: Do People HATE Marriage?
Subject: Re: Do People HATE Marriage?
Skaterdude:
Hi again :)
As always, your opinion is welcome...and you know my previous statements about gender roles and all that...
You do have a point that sometimes we bring it on ourselves...though I'm not sure too many people just marry to start having sex (mainly because 95% of people have sex *before* marriage)...
People get married for a lot of dumb reasons...and sometimes it just doesn't work out. People change over the years...and sometimes they don't change when their partner does, which their partner can find endearing or annoying.

backstroke48:
Yes, making fun of marriage is a running joke in this country. The problem is that a lot of people really aren't joking about it.
And why wouldn't they get divorced? Oh, a lot of reasons. Women have the upper hand when it comes to divorce unfortunately...they can get some serious cash month after month for child support/alimony. That's expensive--and one more reason not to divorce.
Plus, it is something of a security. After all, living by yourself isn't exactly the safest thing in the world to do. Did you know that a married man lives longer than an unmarried man? Just a fact...look up the studies...

I know a lot of people (really, I do) who are miserable in the marriage but due to complicated situations, they can't leave their marriage.

Plus, every married couple has fights...and I've watched my own parents argue enough to make me reconsider if marriage is definitely the right thing.

Thanks for replying ;)
You actually Googled it too?
Isn't it depressing?!

I have to admit, it is definitely making me question more and more whether this is the right thing to do...so many problems arise out of getting married.
I have this guy at work who likes to pick on me a lot and especially makes remarks about how I'm going to be a "wife" one day..
In his words: "Yeah, you're going to be a wife soon, and then it's pretty much all about the money after that. You say otherwise, but come see me in 10 years and I'll be right!"

And when I try to argue back: "Oh yeah, practicing to be a wife again--being deceiving ,[and/or] arguing her point. Gotta get that practice in, get that guy trained. Sure, now you're all smiles and innocence, but soon, you'll be ragging on him for the housework, the kids, everything! Especially the money."

Okay maybe it's not quote for quote but it's basically his message. I keep telling him he's not making marriage any more appealing, and he says "Oh but marriage is fun!"
WTF! After all that, it's still "fun"? How so, I wonder...

And I understand marriage is getting to be outdated (I once started a forum about if "Marriage is outdated". Very fascinating responses.). But it still is in my beliefs--that if I want a physical relationship (as is such) with someone for the rest of my life who may want kids, we should get married.

But then...is this just one big joke? Is it some outdated idea that society has forced on us? Marriage has been around for literally thousands of years...it is difficult to think that people *didn't* enjoy getting married back then too...

Forum: Mature Acts vs Young Ages
Subject: Re: Mature Acts vs Young Ages
Kids need to realize that they are kids and they should have fun and not feel it necessary to live dangerously.
They also need to realize that you eventually leave school behind and go into a life totally different from school. The kids do not realize this at the time.

I do not have any people from school in my life presently. After kids graduate from high school they go about their own life elsewhere. Some go away to college, others become beggars, and still others get jobs. Either way, they disappear.

So, why does fitting in matter so much? I can't figure it out....I never tried to fit in when i was in school.

Forum: Take my advice...
Subject: Re: Take my advice...
I was told to be more assertive.

Then, I was told to find my passion and go w/ it.

These bits of advice were from strangers. It is funny how strangers can give better advice than those who are closer. Like family for example.

Although I am a happy person, there are some things in the world that just make me angry.

What makes you angry and why? Is there anything we can do to really stop the cause?

Forum: ...should teachers have an increase in income?...
Subject: ...should teachers have an increase in income?...
Should teachers have an increase in income? YES!! When you think of the future, what exactly comes to mind? I think of our country's children. As great as this country is, the only way for it to remain is to teach our American values to students. Thats where education comes into play. I believe one of the most important parts of society development is education. The smarter the younger generations become, the better off our country will be.
If education is so important, why exactly do our teachers make such low incomes? According to payscale.com's salary center the average high school teacher makes 35,938 to 53,938 dollars a year. Do we really want our state government to pay the people responsible for teaching the children who will be running our country that much money? If it was my choice teachers would make about 200,000 a year. =D
Let’s try to imagine the changes on the country if teachers did make 200k annually. This is how i see it. First of all, they wouldn't be labeled as teachers anymore, they would be mentors. Not only would they teach the students as a whole, but they would individually inspire the student on a personal level. They would do everything they can to make sure each student strives their hardest. They would tutor the kids on their weaknesses and assist the kids to explore beyond the fields they enjoy and/or are more skilled at. With an increased income it means more school would be necessary to attain the degrees for the career.
We need to appreciate our teachers more or at least the ones who want to make a difference. Teachers have such an impact our society, isn't it only fair that they should get paid more? Basically, by raising the annual income of this career it would create a domino affect that would eventually increase the amount of kids that remain in school, the intelligence levels of students, and the quality of our teachers. =D
