1 Corinthians 13:4-13 talks about love, what it is and what it is not. This forum is not just for those who believe in God and get into His Word, this applies to all who have been or are looking to fall in love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-13

4: Love is patient, love is kind. it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5: It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

6: Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.

7: It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.

8: Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9: For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

10: but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

11: When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

12: For now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

the word love used here, in the original Greek, is a-ga-pe.
It is principled love. It is manifested, as you outlined, in ways other than "romatic love". For example, Jesus used it to say "Love your enemies."

That said, the verses above clearly would help a person who has 'fallen in love', become romantically attached, formed a warm bond, etc. to continue to be in love with that person and they in turn with them by applying those principles toward each other.

I think it's really the BEST definition of love ever ever ever, cuz it's so true. I mean, think about this: what if everone in the world actuall tried to be patient and kind?? Think about how many things would be better, and those are only beginning of the scripture!! =]

Life would be so much better if everyone loved. =]

I believe that anybody can fall in love!! The power of love is outstanding!! I don't think anybody can put words on the feeling of love healing another person. When a person becomes miraculously healed by love I really do believe that God has part in it. God works in mysterious ways and through one of them is love. Like my screen name.. love_is_blind ... I believe this is soo true!!

This is such a powerful bible verse, and one that is truly inspirational. It by far one of my favorite scripture verses.

I feel that some of my close friends are looking to fall in love, or "head over heals" as they say. But I just don't believe they are going about it the right way. Love will find them in due time :)

I LOVE the Bible! God has outlined everything we need in life in that book! It's honest, direct and real! If people were to follow its most basic of principles, this world would be a MUCH better place!

Yes love is all of these things, but I feel we take what it says too lightly. Agape love is not a brotherly love, Agape love is the kind of love that God extends to us. The kind of love that when we abandoned God in our sin in the first three pages of the Bible, everything between those three pages and the back cover is everything He has done to show us He cares and to get us back. It's a kind of love that I don't think we could ever truly grasp. If you are looking to fall in love, this is not the answer. Seek God first and don't worry about falling in love. If you are seeking God, you need not worry about falling in love. He'll bring that person around if it's His will. But do love people as described in these verses. But don't do these things just to find love. If you know Jesus, you've already experienced this love. You won't find it in it's perfect form from any other person. But if you are seeking God, and if it's His will, He'll lead you to someone who comes close to this model of love. He cares about you and truly wants what is best for your life, but He's a jealous God and does want you to seek Him first. If you do that, everything else in your life will fall right into place. If you really want to know what God says through Paul about Marriage, read 1 Corinthians 7. Thanks and God Bless.

you in particular really read into this scripture and i like that. You make very good points, and going on what you said about 1 Corinthians 7, that is also one of my favorite areas to study because it puts the whole issue of marriage into perspective in the simplest of ways.

God is Love and Love is great.

I believe this verse is an amazing reflection of how every individual should live their life in love. If anyone needs reference on what pure love is, look no further. I think this is an absolutely beautiful way to describe God's love to us- and how we should act toward the world.

I am not a Christian, but I do respect it. I agree with this scripture. In my experience, Love is everything I suppose. Love makes you sacrifice yourself, teaches you a patience, makes you tender, kinder, and makes you a monster. Love makes you belonged, understanding, controlling, self-enhanced, and trusted.

I think we must be very careful of reading this scripture too lightly. It has everything that is needed for true and lasting love yet many still don't get it. Statistically speaking Christians have the same or higher divorce rate as non-christians and I believe its because many christians buy into the worlds view of what love is. I have been married for 11 yrs to the Love of my life, our marriage has been through the fire so to speak and it probably won't be the last. If you pay attention to this verse you find what true and lasting love really looks like. Its a love that can endure anything.

Now thats unselfishness at his peak, how many can say they have ever been in a relationship where they were willing to step back take the focus off themselves and focus 100% on the other person. I certainly can't but thankfully God doesn't require us to be 100% and we often find that we are rewarded by simply making the effort to try to be 100%.

In His perfect love he showed us the way to go, those who work towards that goal will be richly rewarded.

I personally love this verse. I read it often to remind me of how I should love others. It is my daily prayer to find someone who could love me like that.

I use to live by it when I was with a certain guy when I was 14, we were a little too mature for our age I guess you could say. Later I kind of realized that in a way it seems kind of fantasyish, because I know I am a jealous person, always has and alsways will be, so I dont think that love isn't jealous. I repect this verse, I really do, it's just I don't believe in it anymore.

i beleive in this with everything i have and i try to show it everyday to everyone i know or meet. i love everyone close to me.
