I can't believe I am telling ya'll this....I am a child molestation survivor. I was molested from the time I was 4 til I was 13. It still effects me. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about it. I have begun to heal this past year. I joined a campus organization that spoke out against sexual violence. The program we did was called Take Back The Night. It is a great educational experience!!

I want to work to make it harder for sex offenders to get back out on the streets. I want to make it harder for them to live normal lives.
I want special license plates for them.
I want them to have their houses tagged with a sign telling them their is a convicted sex offender inside.
I want them to have a special sign on their driver's license telling anyone who sees it..they are a convicted sex offender.
I want them to be able to be seen!!!
I want harsher punishments...a couple of months or years is nothing but a slap on the wrist. I want them to serve YEARS....like 25 YEARS for one offense...I want to protect America's future!!!!

What do you think America should do to make it harder on sex offenders and make it harder for them to commit another crime against an innocent person?

I think we should tattoo SEX OFFENDER on their heads! I hate stories like these. Why do they do that. If I ever had the urge to do what they do I would honestly kill myself. Also I think that they should be sent to prison with that tattoo on their heads and serve at least 20 yrs with no chance of parole. After that society will take of the rest. A girl once told me that she had been molested by her father and her whole family knew about it but didn't stop it. Then someone told the counselor and we never saw or heard from her since. We assume that he was sent to jail but we don't really know. I remember the emotion that was on her face when she told us. It felt like everything was sucked out of her. It looked like she was a living zombie. Nothing made her happy. I can't believe anyone would want to do that to somebody. I just hate that it happens out there. We really need to do more.

Would numbers be necessary to help identify what kind of sex crime they committed?
like 1 for rape 2 for child molestation and so forth

I like what Texas did recently for pedophiles. On your second offense for sexual abuse of a minor you get the DEATH PENALTY! You can't get much harsher than that - I love my wife's home state.

ColumbiaHereICome (change your name all you want - I'll still fall back on the original:) has a pretty good idea as well. Permanent marking is a good way as well. A few years back I lived in an apartment complex where part of one guy's sentence was he had to put a sign on his door stating that he is a sexual predator and he is required by law to let everyone know this...of course, quite a few parents pressured the management to kick him out of the complex and he was gone (and not soon enough!).

In my eyes, these people are murderers. Unfortunately, it's not the kind where the body dies, but it's instead a death of innocence. They take away a part of someone that will never come back - and they should be treated like any other murderer - with a cruel painful death.

There is a sex offender living right next door to me. I got the flyer in the mail with all his offenses and everything about him with his picture so I know who he is. His charge was Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile. I know he's there so I watch my kids like a hawk. I could move but I just bought my house and I figured even if I move that doesn't mean the next place I live at won't have one move in next door. I do think they need to be stricter on them. They definitely need to serve long jail terms than what they get now.

Tattooing it on their foreheads is a good idea too. But I don't think something like that would ever pass through congress. Something does need to be done about them though to make people more aware of them and to prevent them from hurting someone else again.

There are already several acredited online sites that deal with sex offenders. For example, one if able to apply to one of these sites, enter the information about his or her city and find out the adresses of those who are convicted. In Texas, it is posible for an individual to spend serious jailtime for repeated offenses.

I agree that the consequences for offenders should be increased ten-fold. If this calls for identification on license cards, so be it. Any act of identifying a predator is deemed necessary in a situation in as dire need of attention as this.

Special tagging on houses violates the rights of the individual therein, therefore, violating that individual's given rights. It is legal, however, to publicly post the status of an individual in order to expose his or her abominable acts to society.

Wow, that is crazy. I hope you continue to recover. I also think that people should be aware of sex offenders in their area. Like with my town, I have heard that there are maybe 4 offenders living in town. Ok, so why doesn't the city do anything to let people know about them?

I also find it funny how several, if not all of these offenders in my town live near an elementary school. I thought they weren't allowed to live by schools? That makes me mad. The elementary school they live near, is only two blocks from the high school and the tech. college in town. I emailed a teacher who is in charge of my high school's newspaper, and I told her all about it. You know what she did? She didn't even reply to me. And I have yet to see her post an article about it in the school's paper. I think its absolutely rediculous. People need to be aware of the offenders in they're area.

I think they should have more strict punishments. This football player in MN slept with a 14year old, she was willing, and will walk away with a little jail time because it was only his first offence. However, if it was his second or third offence he would have gotten 25 years in prison. I think their ass should be hauled to prison on their first offence!

I don't think they deserve the freedom that they get. Yes, they should have their genitals removed. I think they should have it tattoed on their forehead and all over their body.

as a child, we sometimes don;t know the right from the wrong, and when we do remember, it's a landslide. it wasn't until a few years ago i realized i had had something happen to me that i cannot even put to words. same age and one a year older..and then what i saw in a friends backyard in a kiddie pool with kids just a bit older...sickens me..no matter what we do to these offenders, and i wish i could retaliate against the ones that did what they did,i would, but you can never ever erase the pain.males are ust as susceptible to consequences as females, but we are boys and boys don;t say things....so wrong and so sad. i don;t think i can say it easier but an offender no matter what age should be put away and then capital punishment should be used. strip them of all their dignity as they have stripped ours away. the death penalty should be applied not even for second time but for first time. i wish i could be more explicit but whatever crime they have caused to a minor..whether it be physical, verbal, what have you..should be taken away even if it causes a child to have a foster parent for a while. i can;t put this in black and white as the online girl(young woman) i adore has the scars of the pain inflicted upon her. i get my lease not renewed when i see a violent crime 2yrs ago almost because i said there is a threat to my own personal life but they..the victime and the abuser could stay..i am sorry but i cannot finish this post.

40 years i have dealt with the pain of being hurt in an abusive way especially verbally. the innocents and victims never get justice.
i try so hard to black out the past, and yet i am the only one to visit my mom next to a friend who is loyal to me, and we talk and we know what words of ill she has said to me. he finally saw her the way i do. i go over when i see my dentist or do her taxes, but i just want to run as far away as possible, and get what is left of my belongings out. it's hard to discuss the pain i have been through, and yes i can walk away, but then i am alone. my gf knows this, and she supports me with love....something she and i have never had truly in our lives. my ex-wife was horrible..
it is time i stepped away and wished this was over..
i hope that i do win one day if not this month...so i can get the money to help finance my grad school project credential and start life anew.

I know that you might be feeling bad about what happened to you and things have been done about it. They already have that sex offenders can't live in certain neighborhoods and inform people when they have someone who was a sex offender moving in the neighborhood. But the ones that did their time and just want to get all that other stuff behind them should have the right to do so. Yes some of them won't stop and they are the ones that should be in jail or out of society all together. But their are some who just want to live a normal life and put the past behind them and you are saying that you won't allow that. They don't need their past to hit them in the face everytime they leave they house that have a sign on it. They don't need to have special license plates so people can see them and mess with them because of their past. Everyone deserves a second chance. Yes what they did was wrong but if they want to put that past behind them then they should be able to do that without someone throwing it back in their face. It was a terrible thing that happened to you and it must have been hard.

you are right..people pay a heavy price for what they do, but the numbers are truthfully low with sex offenders as they often repeat the crime...
other criminals do take the chance to make a change. those i applaude, for the hardest lesson learned is no freedom.

it's sunday..i am trying to put my postings aside on this subject...and it is hard not to think of the cruelties..but we endure for what hurts us makes us stronger.

When pedophiles do this, they literally suck a part of life out of that person! I agree with Ferret, they murder their victim in different way than physical death.

When someone is in a relationship, they become really attatched to one another. And I think we give a part of ourselves to the other (having sex or not)... Thats why breakups are so hard. When a pedophile commits this crime they take a part of that person away and its haunting...

I don't know how it feels to be a victim of sexual abuse, but it obviously HURTS! We need to do something about it!

I agree with you on this serious offense and sexual predators should be convicted the way the are here in TX I also think that all states should share info so the criminal can't just move to another state and do it again with no record.

I really think anyone who sexually molest children, or anyone for that fact should rot in jail..But that is not the case in most states. I have no sympathy for them what so ever. I think when they first get to jail, have some of the meanest, badest criminals waiting for them to give them a taste of their own medicine. And before they are released back into society give them a refresher course and hopefully they will not revert back to their old ways.

I agree with you and hope you can achieve your goal. I have five girls and just the thought of a man touching them is really frustrating. You are not alone!! I know what it feels like to be touch, that is something that will never go away. You will get over it, but never forget it!!! It is sickening how these molesters are just walking around and being released around the neighbor where kids live. You are right they should be given years of time.
