Valentines Day
How do you feel about Valentines day? Do you hate it because you are single? Do you think it is just plain overrated? Is it an anniversary?

What are your plans for valentines day this year? Do you have a big surprise for that special someone?

Personally, this valentines day will be my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend. I dont really have any big plans. He said that everything is a big surprise. I cant wait!

Re: Valentines Day
Valentine's Day was originally a religious holiday in honor of St. Valentine-a martyred saint among others that not much is known about: "... whose names are justly reverenced among men, but whose acts are known only to God."It was a holiday to commemorate a martyred man that nobody knows anything about, and was exploited by Hallmark, and other card and novelty companies.

Sounds silly if you ask me.

But I totally celebrate it. Because I love chocolate and candy hearts. And really I love to celebrate anything. I don't think I've ever been bitter about it, even when I was single.

No big plans this year. But I'm sure it will be a good time anyway.

Re: Valentines Day
I must admit being single is an excuse for hating Valentine's Day because I used to. But, three years ago, February 6, 2008, I met my boyfriend and the first night I let him kiss me was on Valentine's Day and it was incredible. Everything was perfect and he gave me a rose that bloomed beautifully. It looked like a rose is supposed to look, smelled wonderful, and stayed alive longer than any other flower I've ever been given.

When I think of Valentine's Day, I think of that rose. And I'm happy to be celebrating our 2 year anniversary 8 days before the 14th. We're both broke so we're not sure what we're going to do this year, but being with him makes it special anyway.

Hope your Valentine's Day is amazing and congratulations on 3 years!

Hey Kellie!

I love Valentines Day, more like the surprises. ; 0~ I love to be in love so how can I be bitter about Valentines Day.

As of now, I dont have any major plans though. My boyfriend and I have been together three years hopefully he will make this one worth while.

All in all, I have no ideal what to get him for Valentine's Day. And suggestions?

God Bless Ya!

Re: Valentines Day
Valentine's Day is just another day for me usually - my ex and I never really did anything special for it or I'm usually single.

Last year, my single female friends and I were going to go to a strip club just to poke fun at it all. We jokingly said "where else would you find a bunch of single men on Valentine's Day?". But...one of my friends was really down because she was single again on Valentine's Day (join the club) so I didn't go to cheer her up.

I have never really had a "special" Valentine's Day, even when I was with my ex of six years. I hate New Year's Eve but don't mind Valentine's Day for some reason.

Re: Valentines Day
Kelli-Sounds like your going to have an eventful valentines day! I love suprises like that! :) You'll have to tell us what happens! Congrats on the 3 years!!

Sen10rgirl-let us know what happens too!

Me and my boyfriend (4 years) don't usually do anything special for valentine's day, besides cards. He's not really the romantic planning type of guy(he's super sweet guy-he just doesn't think that way) unless you hint MAJORLY! Haha! One year he sent me flowers to work and took me to my favorite restaurant. And then we are both paying our way through college so last year we went to a dim lit Steak and Shake! (okay, it really wasn't dim lit)

I think guys are so hard to shop for. I still have a hard time figuring out what to get my boyfriend, even after 4 years of being together. He's the type of guy who would love anything from me because I gave it to him.

tflas-congrats on the win last week. I am with you on that--I absolutely would perfer to be with someone on NYE for that midnight kiss then on Valentine's day--Valentine's day is so commercialized..but there is something about NYE that is special.

Re: Valentines Day
I personally don't celebrate Valentines Day. It seems to be unnecessary to profess your love for someone on this one paticular day of the year. I mean, why don't you profess your love everyday. Then, the holiday would be nonexistent. Maybe I am examining this too much or perhaps, I am a little bitter because I will be single for Valentines Day this year.

Re: Valentines Day
Awww! I love the mushy love stuff! hehe. Jess, thanks for that bit of background info! Interesting stuff! I never would have known that. I think the only time I have ever felt bitter on Valentines day was back in my middle and high school days when all the kids could send carnations to eachother and I never got any. lol

This year, my fiance and I do not have any plans yet. But we usually never do. He's a romantic at heart and loves to do the whole suprise thing, which is great because I love suprises! Three years ago he took me to a Justin Timberlake concert for Vday and he proposed down on one knee with a ring in hand on our way to our seats in the big crowded arena. It was one awsome night. Talk about a huuuuge suprise. We laugh about how sneaky he was for putting that together and going ring shopping because even back then, we lived together and he was so nervous that I would find the ring early in his pockets. I had no idea at all what was going on. So it really was a perfect suprise. Since then, each Valentines day we more of less, celebrate our engagement. We get each other gifts and go out to a romantic dinner all dressed up then come home and snuggle on the couch.

I think it's an adorable holiday and should be celebrated everyday! =D

What I do personally on Valentines Day? Well...I don't quite know. I've never had a date on Valentine's. >.< I'm sure this year will be different! =D

Awwwww Jo! That was so romantic! Let be a low key day or not, it sounds like you're going to have a wonderful Valentine's Day no matter what!

It is so interesting to hear all of yalls stories! I hope each of you has a great valentines day.

As far as what to get a guy, make it somethng sentimental. Dont do store bought. May surprise him by making him dinner and his favorite dessert or something.

Re: Valentines Day
Valentine's Day is a joke. It is just another $$$ for companies. The day after Christmas you already saw Valentine's items for sale.

I do not a specific day to remind me of why I love friends, family or that special someone. Yes, I know that there can be more to it, but overall, it is a superficial and overhyped day.

Do not wait a whole year to tell people who much you care.

Re: Valentines Day
Surely for romantic people this is a big day, for me, it is, but then, you can make the day special, you dont have to wait for anybody to make it special, you can do it, either alone or in company, spending it even with a best friend could be special, yes it is a special day if you want it to be so.

Re: Valentines Day
I'm single this time around but because I have a couple male friends I'm sure i'll receive something anyway. If not I know my daddy will get me something like he does every year. It's better when you have that special someone to spend this wonderful day with but either way I will be happy.

Re: Valentines Day
Honestly, I just have never cared about Valentine`s Day.

I don`t see the point of it, I never have.

But I guess I am a little bias since I also don`t have a significant partner with which to share the holiday.

However, even if I did have a partner, I still wouldn`t celebrate it.

I really can`t stand anything about that they: the couples holding hands, couples kissing, and couples buying each other roses.

And P.S. I especially hate Valentine`s Day because of its obsession with chocolate which is something that I hate with a passion.

Re: Valentines Day
For the most part, I really love Valentine's Day! I've never celebrated it with someone (I did have a boyfriend last Valentine's Day, but he didn't want to celebrate it), but it's a cute idea. I usually end up buying little gifts for the people I love (Hershey bars and the like).
