knowledge vs grades
Ok. so in my differential equations' class today, my professor stated this sentence that caught my attention, " An A or A+ grade can only give you a chance for an interview to a job, but your knowledge makes you keep the job." After thinking about it for a few minutes, I kind of get the idea behind this, but I still had a question following the statement. Doesn't your grade somehow reflect for knowledge? I wanted to share this with my fellow from C-net to see what they haveto say about that.

Yes, your grade definitely reflects your knowledge. Those who try usually get a better grade. Although, as long as you do your work in school, then you can make good grades. Just because you may make good grades, that doesn't mean that you are intelligent. Some people fail school simply because they don't care, yet these people are smarter than many of the students that make good grades. I think that your teacher is trying to tell you that yes it is necessary to make good grades, but you must also apply it

Mmmmmmm...., Where do I begin. As a Registered nurse, I too strived for great grades; some A's, B's and C's are the blueprint of my transcripts that have open the doors for me to start the Master's Program in Nursing Education the begining of next year. Sure grades are key to knowledge, but many nurses that I know are textbook smart, but when it comes to applying there textbook grades (A-A+); they seem to be "idiots" on the floor. As nurses we are granted a license by the state that gives us the authority to practice our profession, and thankfully, that license does not bear the LETTER GRADE that made us the nurses that we later became. Nursing is one of those professions that does not base knowledge by grade but rather by competency. next time you see you grade in your report card, ask yourself, "will the grade help me be good in my profession or will my knowledge and skills that I have acquired set me aside from the rest?"

Keymorn- I'm with you 100%. I am studying for Surgical Technology and the same idea applies. We can get all the A's our little hearts desire but if we cant hand the surgeron the tools he needs in a timely mannor, we are useless. Thats where its important to test on competency. And we do. We are tested on our competency throughout our entire first year. Knowledge and grades are both important but if I had to choose one, knowledge would be my pick.

Glad to hear that you have taken interested in such a demanding field. I once thought that I would have wanted to become a circulating RN, but felt that the world of surgery was not my cup of tea. Keep up the good work......It will pay off in the long run.

Peace
