Should abortion be permitted?

The issue of abortion is one of the most contentious, and emotive dilemmas faced by modern societies. The question is whether one should allow the termination of a child whilst it is in its mother’s womb.

Should it be permitted? Yes
Should women be allowed to do what they want with their bodies? Yes
Should we be trying to make laws that would take control of a woman's body away from her and put that control in the hands of our government? Nope.

Its hypocritical when people look at middle eastern countries and scorn them because they let women have no control over their bodies, but at the same time they think abortions should be illegal. What they fail to understand is that illegal is a BIG word. IT means it is punishable by law. If they think that is immoral than fine, dont get an abortion. But if other people want to, their neighbors shouldn't say they cant. Its as simple as that.

The next comment made is that it is against christian values (or any other religion for that matter). Well then if your a good whatever thats great. But there are people who arent. They should have the right to choose what they want to do with themselves, no majority should have the right to decide for others.

Every year in our country over a million children are murdered before they take their first breath out of their mother's womb. Abortion is no longer a serious medical procedure in this country; the practice of poisoning and removing a fetus from the womb is now used as a form of birth control. How can we, as American, claim to stand for human rights while we allow the most vulnerable members of society to be murdered in cold blood. For me abortion is not about choice; it's about infanticide.

children should be saved not killed because a women has a right. Is it right to kill anyone? Is it right to take a way a child's life away before they even have a chance to live it. You can give women a choice, but is it okay to kill someone. You can talk about morality all you want. It is never right to kill someone no matter where you are. I am a women that never wants to make that choice. I am a women that does not even want that option open for me to take. I have a great respect for people, but there is rights and then there are rights that you can take away from people that never even get the chance to be alive. That is so much worst than any crime any person can commit. You would have at least 5 more people in your life if babies were not allowed to be aborted.

I am currently taking a government class and this is one of our big issues.

I think that abortions are immoral and I completely disagree with them....

however, I do not like being told what I can and cannot do and I believe that if abortions were made to be illegal, hundreds of thousands of deaths would occur from underground abortions (this already happens in 3rd world nations)

I am still kind of fenced on the issue...but right now I am leaning a little to the left....abortions are horrible...but it is their right

Hmm...BrittBritt makes a good point. If abortions are outlawed, it will only increase "back-alley" abortions. Lots of things are illegal, does it stop them from occurring? No.

I believe fighting over this issue is plain ignorant. Seriously think about how much money is being wasted on an issue that no one will ever agree on. Personally I would never have an abortion. I could not do that. But, it is not my job to judge someone else for their thoughts and beliefs. If their actions are immoral or wrong I believe that they will deal with the consequences in their own time. The more it is put out as an issue the more bad things happen we perpetuate the chaos when it could be avoided. It is not my place to condemn or approve someone else. Nor is any ones right to condemn or approve what I believe in or don't believe in. Once we figure this out I believe life would be so much less complicated.

As a woman who has HAD an abortion (I'm not ashamed to admit it) I feel that NOBODY EVER has a right to tell me what I can and cannot do with my own body. I got pregnant as a result of something terrible happening to me (you get the point) for those of you that think it's immoral, what do you have to say about that? There is no way I could have emotionally or physically gone through a pregnancy at that age and under those conditions. I made a decision that was best for ME and that unborn child. How horrible to be brought into the world under such circumstances. There are already too many children in our own country, let alone the entire world, who are not properly cared for. Parents with too many kids (Octo-mom comes to mind here) Kids who are in and out of foster care, juvenile centers. Not to mention all the people on state assistance, welfare and the like because they cannot afford the children they have. I do NOT agree however, to utilize an abortion as a form of birth control. There needs to be a process in place for situations like that. But, who is ANYONE to judge and say what another person can or cannot do with their own body? When do we make laws about circumcisions, piercings, tattoos, cosmetic surgeries, Vasectomies and/or tubal ligations?

I am pretty neutral on this discussion. I myself wouldn't get an abortion, but then again if I was raped and especially if I was young and raped I wouldn't want that baby. Yes, their is adoption services, but if my circumstances were like that then I'd probably go with abortion. When you get an abortion you are in all reality taking somebody's life and thou shall not kill right? But who am I to tell the woman next to me what to do with her baby? Woman should have freedom to choose for themselves. It sounds inhumane, but then again you have to put yourself in their shoes.

I dont think the issue is should abortion be allowed. Its is should someone else have the right to control what a woman does with her body. I dont understand why Men in government positions feel they have the right to tell me what I can and cant do with my body. They will never feel what it is like to have a baby or give birth or to even have a child be a product of rape. I am not overlooking the women in positions, but we must be realistic, there are more men in power than females. My position on this is simple, If what I do physically harms the people of my community, then by all means outlaw it. If not, then why make a big issue out of it? Its not you in the position, dont worry about it, you aren't affected. If the government officail's lives are so boring that they need to sit around and think of new ways to control the people of the United States of America, then we need to give them something new to talk about.

It mostly comes down to whether or not you think an unborn child counts as a person and whether that person has rights. In my opinion you are a person as soon as you are conceived. I think abortion should be very restricted to certain situations such as rape or an immediate health danger to the mother. Except in the cases of rape or some psychological problem, that person already made a choice of what to do with her body. So why does her "mistake" have to mean killing a child? Yes there are a lot of children that need homes, but do you seriously think foster care is worse than death?

this ones tricky... i would normally say no that it shouldnt be permitted..but wen i get to thinkin i aslo think about how there are girls out there that have been victims of rape. A few of these girls end up pregnant, yes its true the baby has no fault but keepin the kid would be a constant reminder of waht happend. Rather that livin a lovin life with their baby the mom is always goin to see it w dissapointment.
There should be some special circumstances in whch abortion should be permited but not if its your falut.
