TWO WIN PRECEDENT
Just like there is a two-term precedent that George Washington set for the presidency of the U.S. I am going propose and adhere to the TWO-WIN precedent on collegenet.

I have been fortunate enough to win a scholarship from Collegenet/Mead twice.
I think that winning it twice is plenty enough for any candidate on this website.

That is why I am officially retiring from winning any further scholarships but still plan to participate on the website as I have.

I encourage those of you who have already won twice to do the same. However, there is nothing that is stopping you from winning a third time or more.

I pledge to this.

Re: TWO WIN PRECEDENT
Do you reall think it should be limited to two wins? I mean, there are some people whose situations may require them to win a third time...and there are some who are eligible for that privilege...

Sure, some may say it's enough to win the first time...but sometimes that just gets us out of the red (debt).

Your post is making me reconsider running when I'm reeligible in March...maybe I won't do it after all...but it sort of seems unfair. CollegeNet didn't make a stipulation where you can only win twice. If you're good, you're good--and you will continue to win, etc, etc.

Though it may be taking away from others who are trying to win...well, this is a weekly thing now. There are 4 or 5 weeks in a month...and certainly a lot of chances every year to win.

Winning twice may be enough for me, but who knows what will happen during my senior year? The past two years I've had to go to the hospital, and since I didn't have insurance, I've lost a considerable amount of cash in that. Despite the fact I've pledged myself to never go into a hospital again unless I'm dying, it still affected me greatly. Something like that could happen again, and then where would I be?

Just saying, consider the other situations.

It's a good pledge. Don't get me wrong.

Re: TWO WIN PRECEDENT
Quite frankly-
I feel the same as Karin. I'm sorry- I'm resourceful and I'm going to be in school for a long time- I was awarded my first scholarship here before I had even entered back to school full time and I had only one year completed when I did.
This year I'm transferring to a bigger university, more fees and more to pay for, and I need help. My car needs help. I lean on my boyfriend all too often, and he's wonderful.
In order to get into the field I want to and achieve my career goals I need to obtain at least a Masters and when you enter the graduate program choices for scholarships and support completely dwindle.

With that being said, all though I respect your decision, and can understand why I will also state that many members on this site- competing or not- voted for me. I would like to hope that if they did have a problem with me winning twice they would say so, but the way I figure it, there are many that are not in college right now, and have lesser pressing issues- if they don't support two time winners, than that is their perrogative and they don't have to vote for me and that is the glory of cnet.
I appreciate cnet and all year long I try to spread the word to get other students to look at the site and participate, I enjoy this site and I feel lucky and blessed to have found it and I simply enjoy being here. There are many people that win once and NEVER come back, they don't stop in and participate, they don't check on the site and again, that is their perrogative. My education is of the utmost importance in my life and I have to be resourceful in order to do well.

Again a SUPER HUGE THANK YOU- to everyone- the site, the people that voted for me, good ole' Sandi and her e-mail yesterday, the clouds, sky and grass. THANK YOU! My words do not express their immense gratitude and deep appreciation.

Bulldog,

I think that it's noble to try to save money for somebody else as long as you have the resources to go to school on your own.

I also think that you're a deserving candidate, and if you won this thing a couple more times, I would be behind that, too.

Hope that school is going well for you, and wish you the best. Don't be a stranger.

Re: TWO WIN PRECEDENT
Karin and Erin - Yea I am in no way saying that this is something that everyone has to do and if you don't follow it that your a bad person. I just like to share the resources available. I won it twice and I think that that is plenty enough for one person and I should not take the opportunity from others.

I have plenty of school left (approx. six years)with what's left of my master's and medical school upcoming. Just like everyone else, I am in need of getting all the financial aid that I can get. There are hundreds of scholarships that go unclaimed because people simply do not want to put the effort into writing a personal statement and requesting transcripts or are discouraged because the are merit-based.

Last year I applied to 8 scholarships and was fortunate to enough to earn 6 of them. This year funding has been more difficult as a graduate student but I still stand by my opinion to let others get some much needed help.

I have always been lucky to be in the right place in the right time so instead of taking one of the cnet scholarships I'll let someone else get an opportunity to earn it.

Woody - Now there is a guy should who has definitely has earned his stripes. Man, we need to get a star next to you.
That is why I am not being a candidate anymore because there are plenty of ppl like you who have not won. I definitely would not feel right winning again while you have not. I try to come here as often but grad school is definitely engulfing me. but hope all is well with ya.

Hey lucky you
I'm trying to get my first win, still! But I aint hatin cause you're like super dude if you can win twice and a third time is really the ultimate challenge. So I say to all who get the chance to make it a second or third win - Go for it!!

Bless you!

Re: TWO WIN PRECEDENT
Wow Bulldog, you are ten times more of a better person then i could ever be.

I need scholarships right now(else I won't be going at all), but i doubt i would stop applying unless i knew that i have enough funds to pay off the rest of my tuition entirely.

By the way, congrats on your fortunate wins.

Bulldog:

I definitely appreciate your sentiments, all around.

I agree with the idea of sharing the resources. When I started on this site, I was unemployed, in a new state, and worried about my future. I couldn't pay for a cheeseburger, let alone college.

But since then, I've found gainful employment, I'm in school, and I make enough money to pay for it, and still live comfortably. So, unless life throws me for a tumble, I'm leaving the money for someone else.

I don't think there's any shame in only stopping by occasionally, either. Sometimes, I really like this place, and other times, it bores the hell out of me. So you make it what you will.

Sounds like you're kicking ass in the scholarship department. Take it easy, buddy.
