The best state to live in?
I have lived in 6 states: New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Tenessee, Colorado, and Texas. Not one of them do I like sincerely. Any advice of a good state to live in? and why?

Well, I live in North Carolina and I think its a great state to live in. We have mountains, foothills, plains, and beaches. We do have a lot of farmland though, but we also have large cities like Charlotte and Raleigh. North Carolinians experience very warm summer months, the beautiful changing leaves of fall, soothing spring months and the snow of the winter months. no matter what season you visit in its always beautiful. I have traveled to many states all over the country and even though they all seem very appealing, there's no where like North Carolina.

I live in Maryland and I love it. We have everything. Beach, mountians, DC, B-more, and every season. Even though I live in maryland though I would have to say the best state to live in would be Hawaii. It is the most amazing place you could ever be. I would live there in a run down shack if I had to. The people are amazing and so is the land.

Re: The best state to live in?
I don't think it depends so much on the state as it does the area. I live in texas and i LOVE IT! There are some areas, like El Paso or Sherman that you would probably want to shoot yourself if you lived there. I live in the DFW metroplex in north texas and we're situated right in between two major cities, four major interstate highways, and we're 5 minutes away from one of the biggest international airports in the country. But where I live there is relatively little traffic, and its a quiet place to live with an excellent housing market. There are natural gas drillings not to far from us (its all covered by trees and there is no noise so its okay) and since it extracts natural gas from under our house, we still own our mineral rights and get a nice check from the company every month.

Its like having all the perks of living in a big city except it has a smaller town feel. Its a close knit community, but if you want to get away all you have to do is pick a direction and drive five minutes and you'll find something.

That and the football is AMAZING! My high school has been state champions for two years, and the neighboring high school was ranked number 2 in the nation for four years in a row(Southlake), and then the other neighboring high school is ranked number 1 in the nation this year (Trinity).

Most states are too big to be all good or all bad, (but NJ and RI are small enough for me to say definitively: all bad :P).

TN, TX, and GA all have tons of different areas to live in. If you didn't like one there's only a few thousand more to consider :)

Connecticut is a great place to live in. It may look like a boring state, but trust me it not. People there(like most place) are just so proud of their state. I used to live there and sometime I wish I could go back. The city of New Britain is such an lovely city. It's not as big as a regular city but it's still pretty big.

I lived in CT, but was too young to remember it. I know Danbury pretty well though.

I've lived in NY and VA. I honestly can say I adore where I live now. NY was nice and it was "home", but I love the diversity, culture and historical value of where I'm at. Living outside the DC area is invigorating.

Lots of great places in the US though. I really liked San Francisco too, the Pacific Coast is amazing...very beautiful. The east coast is pretty, but wow, driving along Route 1 along the California cost has got to be some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen.

Well, since you've been to Tennessee, I guess I can't get you to move there. Some parts of the state are quite cruddy, but other parts are marvelous. It's right in the middle of 'too hot' and 'too cold' so you get the nice kind of Goldilocks 'just right' for your temperature pleasure. It's got some country parts and some big city parts as well. I do hope you'll reconsider, but if not, good luck with your state search!

Well believe it or not, Northwest Arkansas is a great place to live. The headquarters of Wal-Mart is here and the economy in this area is booming. Also, people are pretty nice here. I know a lot of people that don't lock their doors when they go into the store... and nothing happens

I would have to agree with bassplayer on this one! I live in Indiana but I love it in Arkansas. I spent a lot of time in Arkansas growing up and I loved it. I has the perfect weather for me and I love the fact that most people are friendly even when they don't know you or your family (in my case)!

I love living in Maryland. There is culture all around you, no matter where you go. Hereford is definitely that city to live in, it's very country and only about 30 minutes from baltimore.

The only negative aspect is the crazy weather...

Re: The best state to live in?
Personally, I am a northwestern girl. I love Washington, Oregon and the western part of Montana. (I am actually born and raised here as well) My reasons are basic. I love the scenery. I love the hiking available if you wish so. The wildlife is amazing, too. The seasons are awesome-we have hot summers, cold winters, crisp falls and lovely springs!I love the people and culture. We are very laid back and pleasant:) Most of us are very liberal and we tend to really be big on community development and supporting the local economy. We are the ones who like to engage in meaningful dialogue over too much coffee and you will find that everyone has a pleasant pace to them. We dont run around like people from the east. (They make me just dizzy watching!) Also, people are NOT superficial..(I am sure there are a few, but as a population whole..) We are blunt, and honest and crime is really not that high at all. I like the culture. It suits me and honestly, if you are looking for people who are not just focused on making money and what they look like, or you just want to be somewhere cool-this is it!
I have lived in a lot of places other than this..Illinois, California, Europe, Wisconsin..I have also spent time in most of the U.S..I have been to the south, southwest, east..and honestly, they just dont compare!:) I love the northwest. It is just great all the way around!

Re: The best state to live in?
I've only lived in one state and that's new jersey. I am a born and raised jersey girl lol. Jersey is a small state but very diverse. There is a huge difference between northern jersey and southern jersey. If you're a huge fan of diversity, then jersey is place to go. Throughout Jersey, at least in my experience, you encounter different types of people from different ethnicities and cultures, not to mention, even though there is what I guess you can call a "jersey accent", you'll encounter different types of speech depending on which region you go. I live in Bayonne, which is a tiny peninsula surrounded by the Hudson Bay. The city itself is pretty safe and what I love the most is its location. It has the benefit of a quiet community but we're also literally in the middle of everything. The hustle and bustle of New York City is only a short train ride or even a 10-min ferry ride away. We even have our own cruise ship right here in Bayonne that goes five days to Bermuda. Hoboken is only a light rail away. Jersey City is literally a five min car ride. Staten Island is just over the bridge- 15 minute ride tops. Not to mention liberty state park and the statue of liberty is just over the turnpike. I used to be able to see the twin towers from my house. Not to mention, we experience every season: the warm and sunny summers, the snowy winters, the blossoming spring, and the changing fall. Since we're on the east coast and depending on where you are, you have the option to be only an hour or two away from our beaches. Or if you wish to live in beautiful places like Atlantic City, the casino haven of jersey for anyone who's interested, or Ocean City, the beach can literally be your backyard. Believe me, the garden state has alot to offer. I have visited California, New York, and Florida and believe me Jersey is nowhere near as expensive.

Re: The best state to live in?
ALASKA! It is the most gorgeous place I have ever seen. I would totally go back up there if I had the chance. Contrary to ignorant belief, Alaskans do not live in igloos. There is a lot of driving involved though, since almost everything is spread out. I've lived in two different cities, and both times I have to drive about 10-15 minutes to get to the grocery store. The pace there is so different, a little slower, more relaxes, and relaxing. What's beautiful is that you can see mountains and scenery everywhere. A quick 20 minute drive from Anchorage and you're surrounded by trees.
I've lived in how many different states now, but Alaska is where I want to be.
