SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
You know the ones I mean. They've got amazingly fit bodies; smooth voices; cool hair; attractive fashions; they make forty-something look hot. But, do they make you lose track while taking notes?

Nope. I've got a super cute Algebra teacher that makes me blush and the whole bit, and he only makes me pay attention. If you think they're attractive, you want to impress them, and really, the only appropriate way is through your work, so you do that. I've gotten an A in his class all 3 years I've had him. :)

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
Personally i've never had a teacher that has made me turn my head.

In high school i remember having teachers and the boys in my class would be to busy flirting with them then actually trying to pass the class.

I think the classroom is a place to learn not to attract your students by wearing so much make-up, or wearing some-what revealing shirts.

All of the teachers being arrested lately, it really makes me believe that some attractive teachers are a distraction. Then again, these teachers are messed up in the head in the first place to have any type of sexual relations with minors!

I love Sele's answer: It makes sense, and I love the fact that you took his classes 3x (that's funny).

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
I haven't had a teacher in the way you describe mostly because most teachers have to adhere to a strict dress code and dress extremely conservatively.

Do I think that some of them are more attractive than others? Sure. But their primary job is to teach me and my job is to learn from them and I can say that I do that job fairly well.

The real world isn't like the set of "The Graduate". Just because a teacher looks appealing doesn't mean that they are a Mrs. Robinson. Teacher-student relationships usually spell big trouble, more so for the teacher than the student. So I think that all teacher no longer try to dress attractively at work, but rather be more business-like.

I wouldn't take a course with a teacher based on their looks but by his or her personality. If he or she's a fun teacher to be around, hell, I'd take their class every single day of the week. Looks are really second to personality and third to how well a teacher can teach.

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
I had two college Philosophy classes with a professor who was really a great teacher. All I heard was that he was a lot nicer to good looking women who flirted with him. As far as I'm concerned, that was a bunch of crap. He was willing to help any one who showed an interest in learning. In a way, it's rough for a teacher who students perceive to be physically attractive. It's gotten to the point now that high school, middle school, and elemetary school teachers don't dare appear to care about their students in any way. I really believe that this a sad situation since there are many teacher who are concerned about a child's welfare.

i wouldnt think it would be a distraction. i would actually think the opposite. it would make you want to go class more and also be attentive during class and you actually do focus better. haha i've never had a hot teacher but i heard that one of the teachers which i took his online course, was super hot.

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
This kind of ties in with that teacher who had sex with her 14 year old student - but i won't talk about that.

Anyways, there are a LOT of dress codes and rules for teachers (at least in my school) nowadays. But it is DEFINITELY DISTRACTING to have a hot female teacher. Guys will drool and never concentrate on studies. But i have never had a teacher who is that appealing (I think very few "hot" people enter into the profession of teaching).

However, if girls find a male teacher attractive - they will work hard and try to impress him. It is therefore different for both sex.

But it is important to remember that even teachers are humans - they like to look pretty or hand-some - and we all make mistakes. This reminds me of that Friends episode where one of Ross's students falls in love with him - funny.

i love this forum!
(reminds me of the song "what i go to school for" by busted)
i myself have never had a sexy teacher...unfortunately...lol
but last year there was a new french teacher who was considered to be "hot"...(only the "ultra smart kids" take french on for a 3rd yr) he was in his 20's, had an accent, dressed nicely and was in a band...pretty much the cliche'...lol a couple of girls that werent even signed up for his class so yes i guess you can say they distract in a sense...
but the kids taking his class were already very dedicated so for them i think it was just a perk where as for the rest? they were beating themselves up for not signing up lol
but i agree with sele it may lead them to want to impress them which i guess is a good thing...its some incentive...but if i get good grades its for myself not to impress my teachers!

I must say at times those sexy teachers can be a distraction. At times i find myself fantasizing more then taking notes. But, i must say that having those type of teachers give me more of a reason to come to class, rather then some old lady that bores me more then anything. It also makes me want to do well in the class so that i can be on her good side, no one wants to be on the sexy teachers bad side.

LOL, I am laughing at this post, because my hubby says my sons' friends have crushes on me. Anyways, I think it is sick how some younger teachers are taking advantage of kids that have no clue what they are getting involved with.

I had a teacher in high school many moons ago that dated a student, secretly. After she graduated they got married and now have 4 kids!

My 16 year old just told me that they do make you loose track, but they are good teachers. LOL

ugh... you know it. that's the worst. you've got homework due in your next class but you can't focus on it because everytime your teacher walks by your eyes seem to follow. I think it works both ways I want to pay attention to attractive teachers but i've had a younger teacher that everyone flirted with including me. That was rough.

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
Do sexy teachers distract? That depends partly on how they present themselves. I believe that teachers should be professional and dress modestly. Female teachers should avoid showing any cleavage or midriff, and male teachers should avoid any tight-fitting clothes that show off muscles. Beyond that, a good-looking person should not be barred from teaching simply because they have an attractive physique. On the other hand, half the problem lies with the maturity level of the students. The ones who are in class to succeed are probably looking at the board or taking notes. The dirty-minded slackers would probably be snoozing if they did not have a teacher to look at, and thus would not do any better with a different teacher. In the end, the teachers should do what they can to reduce distraction, but the rest is in the hands of the students.

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
I do agree there are many of those kind of teachers out there. It seemed like there were more when I was in middle school but that is just my opinion. All my teachers aren't even close to that now, but I agree with Inga's post in the fact that girls focus on that a lot, at least at my school. Many of the girls are beautiful, but they spend all their time just focusing on looks when they should be focusing on the books. School has turned from a place of learning into a social experience. I am all for fun, but school needs to be a more serious act again..

I think Collegenet members are more thoughtful than most people. Just look at the thought that went into the posts in this forum. I meant it as kind of a fun little time-out forum when I posted it. I hate to admit it, but I just couldn't really think of anything good that day and not a lot of thought went into the question I posed. But the responses here elevated it to a meaningful discussion.

Kudos fellow Cnet-ers. I think we're all headed for bright futures.

I've had one or two teachers like that in the past. And I was in an all boys school, so these teachers stood OUT. I gotta say though they didn't really distract me from the class, in fact they probably helped keep my attention in the classroom instead of wandering around my own fantasy land like I'd do in my other classes. Personally I love tilfs, and I wish there were more of them out there. :)

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
Its funny because I have had attractive teachers and they have all made me realize something, that is: they have gone into their profession to be taken seriously, and how awkward and annoying is it to be flirted with by a student. Its definately not why they got into teaching. They become a living reflection of those situations you hear about: a woman gets a well respected title then gets hit on by her boss. How enranging and annoying.Hot teachers distract in a good way- they allow students to realize even if they are hot, they really should just be taking seriously. And if you have a crush on them, by all means, respect them by taking them seriously, not as a crush.

Re: SEXY TEACHERS, AKA TILFS, do they distract?
I don't think attractive teachers are distracting. You have to decide why you're in class: to get an education or to check out the instructor. I've had teachers who were quite attractive, but I didn't let it get in the way of what I was trying to learn. All my teachers are far older than I am anyway, and I don't go for older women (no offense). But I go to class to learn, so good looks aren't a priority when I take a teacher.
