dravloc's StandOut® Profile
Hello,
I'm Arie. Or Arielle. Whatever strikes your fancy.
I was accepted to The Culinary Institute of America July 27th, the day before my birthday, which was the best present I could've ever recieved. The NY campus is about 1 1/2 hours north of Manhatten. The school is gorgeous along the beauitful countryside of the Hudson River. CIA is said to be the most prestigeous culinary school in America. It has been called "The Harvard of Culinary Schools." My dream is to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Culinary Arts Management from this particular school. I will be trained to become both an Executive Chef and a restaurant owner.
I recently attended an open house (by myself because my mom couldn't afford it. My kitchen manager, who is like a second father to me actually paid for my plane ticket to NY. I am eternally grateful.) and found out the school is TWICE as expensive as I thought it was. My heart hit the floor. I felt sick. I was already freaking out about what I thought the tuition was, exploring all options of financial aid. Come to find out it a whooping $232,000 for all four years. Good grief. That's almost a quarter of a million dollars!
CIA is incredible in every single way. I don't doubt that one bit. My problem is all the efforts I have put forth the last few months have gotten me virtually nowehere. My parents have already told me they can't help. They don't have the credit or the money to assist me in any way. I will be paying for this school soley through my own efforts. I began losing hope, constantly reminded of an elusive dream.
Through all of the hurdles I meet and the discouragement I feel, I remain determined. I am NOT going to let money prevent me from reaching my goals. I want the BEST culinary education in America, and this is the school that I will get it from.
I am now in overdrive, searching for scholarships everyday and exploring all options of financial aid.
I am scheduled to begin school in April but have spoken to the admissions office to push back the start date if needed.
I am also currently attempting to join the Coast Guard Reserves as a Food Service Specialist and will find out if I am eligible after my physical at the end of October.
PLEASE help me live my dream!
